not sure if this was discussed above but one of the bridges at the Sarnia/Port Huron border is closed after July 5th for maintenance with the other bridge going bidirectional. they say it wont cause disruptions but of course it will so plan accordingly. crossing middle of day Saturday July 29 could be slow. i plan to go early-ish or meet @19Canuck on the way over.

also is everyone looking to get hotels or is there interest in camping? i am game for either and can help find some convenient camping if necessary.

 

Yes I forgot to mention the bridge situation...not really favorable but I think we'll get an early enough start that hopefully the traffic won't be to bad....I probably just jinxed it!
I sat for almost 2hrs on the stinking thing last week but it was around 4pm...I won't make that mistake again!!

I was on the bridge...only had 2 passenger car lanes open...and like 8+ from what I could see on the commercial side. I get the fact that the truck traffic should have priority but come on!! 2 lanes? Cars lined up from Sarnia to Pt Huron....my kid pissed on the bridge and 2 people (that I saw) ran out of gas.

US border control (which is at the end of the bridge) is more fussy

 

US border guards are legitimately concerned about the security of their country and their questions and methods reflect that.

Canadian border guards are glorified tax collectors and rarely ask anything beyond "how long out of the country (to assess allowances), what's the value of goods coming back and do you have any alcohol or tobacco?"

 

Absolutely concur...if your passport is canadian. Foreign passports invoke differing questions on canuckian side

 

Can confirm... previous experiences have always been unpleasantish... with elements of threat directed towards me. After getting local papers, all I get is smile and wave.
