FUEL GAUGE!!!!

My gauge on my dash is not marking the fuel level, im thinking in buying an extra gauge and use it. can it really work? ? is it hard to install>?

I'd check the float in the tank before going the aftermarket route.
Dropping the tank isn't too much of a chore as long as the tank is damn near empty.

There are 5 bolts that hold the skid on.
After dropping the skid there is 1 additional bolt up front and a strap on the back of the tank. Put a jack under it and let it down slow after pulling remaining hardware.
Start the truck and disconnect the electrical connectorrs to the pump. Truck will stall from fuel and depressurize the system.
Pull off the two fuel lines (mark one of them cause u dont want to mix up the pressure line with the return line when you put it back together). Lower the rest of the way.
There are like 8 or 10 small bolts that hold the pump assemply in the tank. Once you pull these off the entire fuel pump/float assembly comes out as a single unit. Give that bad boy a once over. I'd guess the float is froze up.

It took me two hours to drop/remove my pump the first time. Only 20 minutes the second time. Foresight on this activity is a plus.

My Wifes 97 runner was having issues with the fuel gauge and thought the same as you, my buddy had a spare cluster that I tried out and that solved the problem, it was also almost the same millage that I had which was a bonus. I would definitely check that first.

i did check the float... did not work after that Y_Y

yeah it is my cluster.....i tried it with a fuel gauge and worked
