I don’t if resale value will “go up”.
Maybe, but the Tacoma typically has a high resale value anyways.
The newer the truck, the more you typically get.

Unless the 4th Gen has lots of problems.
I’d say it will keep the same resell trend as all the older generations.

4th gen. If you don’t like it then you can go back to a 3rd gen and make some coin. Cheers!

If you can't wait any longer, I'd go with the 2023. It's going to be much more proven and refined than the 2024.

The 3rds have weird transmission gear hunting that can only really be fixed with a tune. I saw an interview with the engineer for the 4th gen talk about how this was one of the big complaints and that they took that issue into account when making the 4th gen. So I assume the 4th gen will have better drivability and lower end torque, along with no gear hunting. That alone i would strongly consider a 4th gen.

Yeah, I believe later 3rd gen models had better programming though. Gear hunting still beats a blown head gasket though. Like I said, the 2024 could be a home run or it could be junk. It's simply unproven yet and a first model year.

Remember, that the 22re, 1gr, 1uz, 2jz at some point were the new engine and some without any proof said they were “unreliable and untested new tech” cheers!

So after a 3rd gen run with only minor tweaks to shifting issue, toyota is going to make 4th gen right? Let's hope so! Tuners have an answer for the the 3rd gen. 4th gen will take time by tuners if it ends up needing it

Did they improve the programming? Never drove a late model 3rd gen. Hopefully they really did though.

I was told they made some improvements in 2018 and 2020. Never drove one to confirm, but several people on here have said it is much improved.

That's a horrible idea. What time?
I have a 2018 MT Sport. It was my daily for three years and has about 115k on it. I have zero complaints about how it works and drives. I have pulled trailers, done city driving, and recently pulled a U Haul double axle 12 foot box from MI to VA. It performs as it should. And it is a lot more fun off road than an auto, as you really have to pay attention to what you're doing. Last time out off road, I had the only Taco that made a muddy hill climb on the second attempt. A Pro and a fully locked off road had to be winched up. I suppose opinions are opinions, but I have no complaints about the MT.

Just a word of warning from someone who went through this decision process back in March - sticks are super tough to find.

Nearly all of the ones listed on CarGurus and the like have deposits down on them. Toyota's inventory search also doesn't let you search based on transmission option, so the search for them is even tougher.

Toyota also began winding down manual production a month or two ago. When I picked up my truck last month it was the only stick TRDOR for sale in the entirety of the Pacific Northwest. There was no inventory at all within 500 miles of Portland, OR.

If you want a stick 3rd gen, search and call dealerships right now.

I wouldn't wait for a '24 if you want to buy now. The first year will have issues to work out, which may or may not be addressed in the '25 model. The only problem buying now is you're likely going to hit by dealers with the "Covid" mark up. Our local dealership is adding 5k as a "Market Value Adjustment." I like the new model, but I won't entertain the thought of buying one until they have been on the road for a year or two.

Yeah. I got my 23 TRD OF MT in early April at the Newport OR dealer. Only manual I could find anywhere. My local dealer was worthless to me on this search, claimed they never got MTs at all. Anyway, Newport happened to have a new arrival in stock at msrp, Electric Lime (not my favorite color but it has grown on me). I had to have a manual or no-sale.

Damn, my favorite color of any Tacoma, and of course mandatory manual. What color did you want?

I would have preferred white - all my vehicles have been white. But the lime is growing on me. I've named her Rita.

White is still a great color. Best color for customization as well.
