I have always liked wagons more than the muscle cars of the day.

The Oldsmobile V8s had a very distinctive exhaust sound too, you could pick one out idling in the dark.

A Vista Cruiser was even the pace car for the Indy 500 in 1972, 455 powered! :)

Well Wrenchmen, after yesterday's fun filled adventures with tree I'm moving pretty slow today - first gear only.

Too wet to mow so I found a low impact project.

As any longer term reader knows I have a challenged relationship with sleep, I'm sure many Wrenchmen have lain awake at night wondering the age old question: "is my tire gauge accurate??"

    ...well, maybe not... ;)

So I put this unit together with stuff I had around the archives.

    KIMG3196.jpg

Pretty self explanatory, a reg-u-lator, nice liquid filled 0-60 psi gauge and a tire fitting (Schrader valve) on the end.

Gauges are generally most accurate in the center of the scale, that is why I used a 60 psi max unit.

I rooted around and found four gauges.
On the left, a cheapie that came with a tire plug kit.
Next a HD Milton unit I have had for years. :oldglory:
#3 A Campbell Hausfeld unit from The Mart - I knew this one wasn't trustworthy.
    #4 A nicer "Accu-Gage 4x4 :taco:

    KIMG3197.jpg

This one has a deflate valve too.

    KIMG3199.jpg

I tested from 20 to 60 psi in 5 psi increments.

    What I learned:

#1: 2-3 psi low at all psi - it only goes to 50 max.

#2: The 25 year old Milton was the most accurate, from right on to 1 psi low at maximum.

#3 I knew this thing was junk, up to 8 psi low.

#4 Interesting, this one holds the reading until you push the vent button. With air applied it read high, off the air the reading dropped to within 2 psi, this is the only gauge that read high.

Useful :notsure:, didn't cost anything and didn't take much effort.

    Now I will sleep better...:rofl::rofl::rofl:

    Yeah, right...

The Milton is what I’ve used for years. Got a low & a high one for bike tires & such. Don’t need digital or anything that freezes. As for TPS, it’s a good indicator but I wouldn’t run with it exclusively.

When I mounted the new tires I tried to get the initial pressure as accurate as possible, the display still checks right on with the gauge.

BTW mounting and balancing them was an all day process... :bananadead: these 17" jobs are heavy.

I’ll be doin’ the Nitrogen thing for my new Winters & wheels just because I can. What I won’t miss is 24psi leavin’ home just to have 30psi arriving at work when it’s 40below & yeah, they’re 17” too. Better selection than 16’s for sure.

Question for you all, I'd like a mosquito solution for my backyard and camping. Rather not use bug spray, I'm a picky baby and dont like it. Do you all have any traps or repellent stations you have had good luck with?

All I ever bought was Milton Gauges and air chucks because of all the dual wheels.

They are all at least 20 plus years old . Wow 20 years no longer seems that long ago.
