That's pretty uncommon, they aren't even EPA rated for that, I won't deny it is possible but it would be special circumstances.

I squeezed 21 mpg out one summer but I was on 31" all seasons with the front hubs unlocked and driving across Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma

I'd personally look for the UR based 460 rather than the old UZ based 470 but looks nice enough

I think the GX460s are so ugly though. But they do also have the better rear axle.

This thing was more mint underneath than anything I've seen in a long time. The maintenance and history of it attracted me most.

2 owners, 1st owner was his brother.

But yeah I hear ya. Wife is getting herself a new car anyway so that'd be the other family rig.

The neighbor I mentioned that has 6 Yotas has a 460.

Which reminds me, I need to bug him about when he finally gets his LC back.

The 8.2”. People who wheel their 470s a lot usually swap that in, or a 9.5” diamond axle if they’re really hardcore.

Eh, guess I just don't see the allure in wheeling that sort of rig

Also why I wouldn't be up to speed on what to swap in, etc

Nice to see you have picked out all the different types of rigs and upgrade paths you'd choose for your hardcore wheeling :luvya:

I haven't had the tent on in almost 3 years, not since Moab. The one thing that killed mpgs on the Tacoma worse than anything for me was bigger heavier tires. And combined weight of steel. I don't think the rtt hurt it all that much being on a low profile bed rack, at least I never noticed much, if any, difference in mpgs with it on vs off.

The 4runner does do better but not by much, maybe 2 mpgs better.... it's not having to buy premium that makes the big difference lol

Interesting, tires didn't make much of a difference on either rig for me.

The case on the 4R roof did though on camping trips but that's the only time I ever took it with me.

@Speedytech7 do you think the 1FZ is better than the 2UZ? It seems like the V8s just keep on trucking to 500k while the straight sixes need a reseal or rebuild by then. Maybe it’s just that the timing belt forces people to service the cooling system periodically.

Read an old post the other week where someone said there was an 80 series pulling a plow or mower out in the fields.

One member said maybe he confused it for a tractor.

Another poster said "what's the difference"

It is kind of like a tractor engine with a better head. And tractor engines are always coated in oil.
