Sounds like every tune I’ve ever tried. My opinion is that the whole tune market is way overblown, especially for MT. I cut my losses and went back to stock.

will try the ecu reset and reflash tomorrow and see what changes. wasnt expecting huge gains but i was expecting SOME. but like you said as of now the stock tune was smoother and more linear. i will give it a second chance and see first anyways.

Just got done tuning David’s new 2021 Tacoma TRD Pro MGM right after he got it off the lot at our local Toyota dealership! Got him on the new 10.0 - Lite Throttle. Instantly noticeable difference from when he test drove it and drove it off of the lot. Another happy KD Max Pro customer!

will do. as it was the powerband was extremely peaky at around 3000rpm. also noticed the same low rpm full throttle shutter. almost like a driveline vibration feeling. i dont think my offroad had that hillstart assist but ive seen others on here complain about it before. done the reflash but havent driven yet. been using my 1st gen truck. may take it out this evening.

Is there a changelog for v10 vs v9?

What are some of the outstanding differences here?

Has anyone been able to directly compare the KDMAX to the VF Tacoma 4.0 Tune Pack? I ordered the cable/license and the tune pack with the intent of throwing one of the base maps in there and tweaking later, but curious to know how it compares to what you guys have been doing.

Mine has been night and day. Way better low end, I’m a go slow guy. Much better off road, I can lug it up rocks now instead of burning clutch and keeping the rpm’s up! It definitely rips if you get on it also. MPG’s are great for a heavy pig, I can get 18+ if I keep it around 65 on a trip.

I've been running v10 for a few weeks now and can say it's a definite improvement over v9. Biggest things I've noticed so far is the 1000-2000RPM range is way smoother, no more "engine shuddering" while in that range in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear and applying throttle. Also, I remember a significant "step up" in power right around 2800-3200RPMs when accelerating onto the on ramp almost like you can feel the variable cam timing change over to the more aggressive profile to make power in v9. Now it's a nearly seamless transition and feels way smoother. As for MPG, it's about the same, maybe slightly better but I haven't been keeping a super close eye on those numbers. Overall, a great improvement over v9! When I get some time, I can't wait to take the truck back out on some trails to see how it feels off road.

Long time friend Bruce Pooler stopped by with his 2017 Tacoma TRD Sport this evening. He'd had enough of the erratic shifting and poor acceleration, so after applying the necessary Toyota ECU update, I flashed his truck with the KDMax Pro v10.0 tune. He left very happy!

If you're looking to get tuned in the upstate New York region, reach out! I'd love to help!

I have a few hundred on v10 now, and it is really a great tune. I am getting better mileage, (I run 90+ non eth fuel), shifts are smooth, predictable. the 40-60 mph shudder between 4-6th gear is noticeably less prevalent (this isnt a tune issue, this is a torque converter lock up issue but, the tune is seamingly helping the situation. I am going to drain and swap my trans fluid in the very near future, to see if that can help, even more). the acceleration from stops, and during passing, is linear, and very smooth. you know it is a good tune, when you have OCD like I do, and you are not constantly bothered by too many, or the lack of shifts. I find myself more and more, not paying attention to the way the truck is behaving, because... it is behaving. that is the best thing, for me.

One of my good friends from the sportbike community, had his Pro updated from xt9, to v10 (remotely I believe), and he stated, "I cant get over how much better the truck drives. It feels like it finally gained enough power, to use the transmission properly without shifting all the damn time". he was very impressed with the tune and it's updates, as you can see.

thank you again @PapaRee, and @TWTaco, your tuners, testers etc... KDMax v10 is where it is at! Ski
