Hi All. So , I was considering the Ford 150 Powerboost hybrid for awhile . The 7.2KW inverter power in the bed was the real attraction. Price , and reliability issues killed that. The 2024 Taco Hybrid comes around offering better reliability promise , possibly better economy , and important to me , the inverter power plug in the bed. I know its only 2.4 KW . But if all 2.4kw is available to the bed plug I should be able to power a 13.5 BTU RV AC with a Softstart. I'm not finding to much info on the inverter power. Anyone know if all 2.4 kw is available from the bed plug?

Same with the Ford. If I get all 2400 watts from rear plug it should do what I want. The AC will run from a 2000W Honda generator. Now , if MPGs approach 30 its the perfect truck for me.

You aren’t going to get anywhere near 30mpg.

Go take a look at the new twins and see how much their MPGs improved with the turbo they dropped in it. Also check out the delta between the hybrid and non hybrid Tundra. The new turbo/turbo hybrid engine is about performance, not MPGs.

Idling your truck to power your RV AC seems really ridiculous when you already have a eu2000 generator.

hell, I’d go buy a generator instead of idling my truck for hours every day while camping.

It's alot easier to walkoff with a generator than a truck. Plus I dont have to carry cans of gas. Most likely use 2-3 gallons overnight.

Buy a chain for your generator

We saw one of the Powerboosts at a campground recently. The guy had his RV plugged in, and it would just cycle on every so often when the battery was getting low. It was pretty quiet tbh. I didn't know much about them at the time, so I didn't ask if he had the 7.2 kw or the 2.4 kw setup. He said a tank lasts about two days.

Looks expensive though. My beater generator will do the same thing for $19,750 less! :D

The setup with the hybrid/gen is convenient for me. I make the run down 95 to Florida often , and I don't stay anywhere on the way. I sleep in rest stops or truck stops. With or without my small trailer a hybrid with onboard power is an asset. With the trailer I can quietly and unobtrusivly power the trailer. When I go without , a hybrid can run with its ac on very economically. Its usually hot stale air or bugs from an open window that wake me up. Almost went with the Ford ,but I'm really not feeling the Ford Trust at the moment.

I'm waiting on more details on the 2.4kw inverter as well - mainly if it's a pure sine wave or modified sine (like in the 3rd gen), and if it'll cycle the engine on/off like on the Ford hybrid.

The answer to that question is critically important for me, as well. At this point, do we even know if the power inverter will work when the engine is off?

If they fail to include the battery engine recharge function, I wonder if it's possible to add the same functionality with an aftermarket device of some sort?

It will probably function the same as the Ford version. It will work continuously with the engine cycling on and off to keep battery charged. Same idea as sitting stationary with theAC on. The engine cycles on and off as the battery needs. The ford has some type of feature that turns engine completly off if the door is opened when using the inverter. Which is a security must.
