Those are a wild berry patch that was here when l moved in, but over the past few years l've been cleaning it up and adding new berry bushes to it. But anyway to answer your question, best l can tell they are some sort of breed of black raspberries.

I have been removing the old canes in the Springtime but probably not a bad idea to do it in the Fall or early Winter.

warm and dry winter makes the tick population explode. All spring turkey season I never had a tick on me because of my permethrin treated clothes . Hunted at least 20 days ,crawling and sitting on the ground in the woods . Now in my yard myself, wife or dog has at least one a day

33 gallons beans picked so far. Picked another gallon + of blueberries, some zuchhs, a few jalapeno and cayenne peppers. Yellow squash should start coming in this week, lost a few plants at the start. Corn tassling and straightened back up. Had to help a few with some dirt.

We can them. Sent two bags home with daughter and son and law, broke the rest this afternoon and just got done. Wife will be canning them tomorrow. Usually try to put up 100 quarts. Some years we make it, some we don't. This appears to be a good year and still getting rain. Measure given is based on 5 gallon buckets picked. I picked 121 gallons year before last, was a bumper crop. September and deer season came around with me still picking beans so I plowed them under. Some came back up voluntary and ended up picking a couple more gallons off those before frost! Last year was a bust, was intermittently dry and couldn't keep enough water on them. Just had enough to eat on here and there.

Harvested my first jalapeño last week:

    upload_2023-6-26_10-16-16.png

It went into my first jalapeño omelet of the year. I'll eat those exclusively until my habaneros start coming in. I expect to harvest habs around the end of July.

28 quarts done yesterday from the top three containers, 4 cookers worth. A gallon or so in a bowl and the large container on bottom shelf to go today, maybe 21 quarts.

Ended up with another 28 quarts so it was 56 total from that first run. Yall probably getting tired of pictures but here is the proof as well as the garden this morning. She found two quarts from '21 while putting these away. Will probably eat those up soon. Tomatoes starting but green and about 2". No okra yet but am sure there will be plenty on the 125' row when it gets hot. Peppers, squash all coming in now. Corn tassled, may make some if we keep getting rain.
