You getting your gears put me over edge to finally pull the trigger and call Zuk. So worth the money, time and energy.

My truck is completely stock so I can’t talk… but it sounds like you’ve done quite a few mods to improve the truck in some areas but the drivability as a result in other areas deteriorated. Sounds like the gears are bringing all the other mods together and giving it a new lease of life.

I’d love to do a lift and tyres but know that would just start a chain reaction of spending that I can’t afford right now

Added weight just eventually takes it toll. 35” tires are heavy and 3.91 gears are too tall with the 0.69 5th gear and 0.58 6th gear for overdrive. It was essentially a 4-speed. All the other upgrades improved the driving experience with no real downside. Suspension, brakes, tunes, etc.

Dude, believe me, with my virtual cheque book I know exactly what my truck would look like, nothing too crazy, just purposeful.

My oem wranglers have 26k on them and are starting to look like racing slicks so I need to make a decision there on size and wheel upgrade. I want a set of trd faux beadlocks but will probably settle for a set of 4Runner wheels and stick some cooper at3 LT skinnies them… and so it starts.

Well, after countless years, I finally got my dream light bar. An Onyx6 20" amber to place into my Pelfrey bumper. Hopefully, it won't take as long to regear. But I am technically retired now. So, I really have to watch my pennies. But one day, it will be regeard before my youngest son takes over the truck. He's ten now...

Welp 2 cents for whats it worth, I'm happy I re geared to 4.88. World of difference from stock, and not too different from the 5.29 ya'll seem to be happy with. My mpg will always be shit but climbing the hills outta town is a breeze on 285's. Just made sense when I 4wd swapped and had to order a front diff anyway. ECGS hooked it up and so I added ARB lockers to both. Couldn't be happier, I think a tune would be a nice add to made sure its happy in its age!

Only on 285’s the 4.88 is more than enough. When I was on that size tire I originally regeared to 4.56 which I thought was amazing. With each jump up from there in tire size I wanted more and more from the gears. After 4 years of hard abuse on 35’s and one year with the 37’s I finally busted the ring and pinion. Wasn’t until then that I really had the excuse to go to 5.29’s. And could only afford the rear at the time so I spent the summer with only 2wd and just yanked the front ds out until I could get the front done

I thought about changing to 4.88's when ordering my replacement 3rd.. but kept the 4.56's with the 35's. If I didnt have boost or other supporting mods, I would most definitely go 4.88's.. but for now, it's actually not bad at all.

About 3 more weeks until my 3rd from ECGS gets here. Been occasionally driving the Taco short distances and the pinion bearing/ring and pinion are intermittent when making noise. Regardless, its all getting swapped out... but its making it more tempting to just risk it and take the Taco on a trip or something anyways... I'm dying..
