I have been hearing Dealerships are doing so that they have documentation of maintenance not being done to deny claims on extended warranty plans….

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
Sorry, not to be offensive but this was my morning funny.

They are trying to take you to the cleaners. I will comment on just a couple items but I could add more, but running late! :)

MAF valve - not needed unless your truck runs like crap and this is proven to be the issue.
Replace rotors - unlikely this is needed. New pads, and machine the rotors if needed.
Brake fluid flush - this is ok
Power steering flush - really, never done this on any vehicle in the last 40 years. Never a steering issue.
Driveline maintenance - what the hell is this, your 2019 should have zero greasable zerks.

    So a few comments…

The sad truth of all this dealer incited "needs done immediately!" - there are individuals that listen to them. Everyone of these outfits needs a state mandated, posted sign recommending an independent, consumer advocate. I get my oil changed at a dealer - with Toyota factory stuff (I hope, probably misguided trust) and every time they give me a huge list of recommended services that I failed to have them do over the life of the truck. Last one I got added up to over $5500! They aren't even embarrassed to attempt this (or their advisor has had a lobotomy). I pay for the oil change and get out of there as fast as possible to avoid going berserk and offering to change everyone's air filter ...........

Toyotas shouldn’t need anything but oil changes, brakes, and tires for the first 150k miles. Tell them to fuck off.

Your dealer is crooked as fuck. Never go there again.

EDIT: I had a similar situation a long time ago at a GM dealer. I dropped the truck off for a stupid simple recall and they came back with this $2000 list of things that just HAD to be repaired right now because it was really bad and totally unsafe to drive!!!

I said holy cats can you get your manager out here so we can work out a loaner car and schedule for getting all this done? Manager came out and I said thank you for letting me know how many things are wrong with my low miliage GM S10 ZR2.

This has got to be the biggest piece of garbage I have ever had the misfortune of owning, I'm not sinking another penny into keeping something that is obviously so poorly made on the road. I will never buy another GM product or set foot in another GM dealership for the rest of my life. I feel bad for the fool who ends up buying this wreck from me.

This was not the reaction they wanted a room full of customers to hear. I still have the ZR2!

I took my truck in for a recall, I couldn’t believe it when I was picking up my truck they recommended over $3,500 worth of things that needed to be done, I said no thanks and was on my way, I think my truck had 60,000 miles at the time, they’re crazy

Brake fluid is due by 35k sure you can keep going forever but I’d change it. Usually 2 years or 24k miles. Rest was a bunch of baloney

I thought dealerships were sued over the fuel induction service, because all they did was spray some cleaner into the engine that didn’t do shit?

Is this dealer in the south?

Edit: It’s not a terrible idea to replace the brake fluid when you replace your brake pads, I refused to do it on my 4Runner at 50,000 miles and the fluid looked like shit at 80,000 miles, I think the Toyota systems leak in more water than they should.

Wife took her 2018 Forrester to the dealer for oil change and rotation and they tried to sell her a brake line fluid replacement. Say what? Yes, because of moisture it develops in the fluid.
It has about 38K. I told her absolutely NO WAY. I have never changed brake or PS fluid in any of Toyota 4x4s. Did try once to check rear dif fluid in my 86. Couldn't get the bolt to come lose. Drove it to 212k when I sold it and got 05 Once my free oil changes for my 2022 are over....no more visits to stealer unless it's a warranty issue.
Got several friends who mechanics and always glad to help.

I do my own service and avoided the dealer after they almost killed me not tightening my lug nuts on one tire after the first included rotation. By a lucky star when I got out at home I saw one of them missing and checking the others, they were finger tight. No idea how they held on for that drive.

anyway, I probably have $600 at most in money spent on service in 4 years of ownership and 30k miles. Oil changes, tire rotations (obviously only cost time), a brake fluid replacement, and a PS fluid change, couple cabin filters, and an air filter (amazing how long those stock filters go)….all done by me. No reason your truck and everyone else’s shouldn’t have similar results working as a daily driver.

Really depends where you live, and how many miles you drive a year. Exhaust systems, and o2 sensors can fail long before 150k if you mostly do short trips.

Absolutely there's value in flushing brake fluid every couple years.

Brake fluid is hygroscopic, meaning it acts like a sponge to soak up and trap moisture. Dirt and contaminants get in there eventually, the reservoir cap is not a complete seal. It can't be, otherwise the fluid level wouldn't be able to drop over time as the pads wear in.

Also people don't understand how brake fluid can get aerated over time. When you panic stop on the freeway, the brake fluid down at the calipers gets really hot and actually boils producing tiny air bubbles. That will create a spongy/soft pedal feel, flushing is the only way to get it out

I took my 2007 Tacoma into a dealership (Culver city Toyota) for the clock spring cable recall on veterans day a bunch of years back. I sat In the waiting room for close to 3 hours.
While sitting there, this poor guy is sitting there, nervous as heck and bouncing his leg. As i am sitting there waiting for my truck to be done. This service cadet (rookie AF) comes into the waiting room and approaches the Asian guy. The kid tells him it will be $2500.00 to replace 4 shocks and a sensor.
My reaction to this was :crazy:
The customer ( the guy noticed my reaction to the news he was given) and upon leaving the waiting room, he asked me what I would do. I told him to ask for his keys and run. Run away as fast as you can to the nearest autozone or oriellys. I looked up online and the sensor and shocks he needed were no more than 500$ In parts. The service monkey (kid) runs and tells his overlooker what has transpired.
This is where it gets interesting... the service department supervisor tracks me down (I was out front of the dealership having a smoke). The supervisor approached me screaming and yelling, ARE YOU A MECHANIC? ARE YOU A EXPERT??). I explain that I am not, just have common sense.
This jack ass then pulls my truck from the service bay and kicks my ass out off the dealership. :duh:
