Hey Connecticut, our everything hurts

Being up here in Salisbury, I get bears in my yard almost everyday. Sometimes I have get after them with my slingshot to get them to move on, or they can make a mess of my garden. Friggin bird lady next door attracts all sorts of critters with over 20 feeders hanging everywhere. I love it when she left her garage door open, and a young cub climbed up on her Subaru snooping around. Before the little guy left, he left a nice land mine on the hood.

Today's plan... Go roast in the beach for a while. Not my idea of fun, but I'm outnumbered so I have to do it.

We've had a few bear sightings in Shelton over the years. There was even a bear that came strolling through my gf's neighborhood in Ansonia a couple times over the past month+

NW CT is such a beautiful area and in my opinion not really given enough love.

 

The only bear I saw is when I was hiking in California with my sister. Let's just say I walked very fast to get back in the car. The only animals I see around my house are turkeys, rabbits, and maybe an occasional fox.

CT has a new state law regarding bears. It is now clearly legal to kill a bear, in self defense. It's also illegal to feed bears.https://www.wtnh.com/news/connecticut/gov-ned-lamont-signs-bear-self-defense-bill/

 

I saw that. Surprised it passed in this state. I like bears. They generally try to avoid you, but in a densely populated state like this bear/human conflicts will continue. They are cute and cuddly till they're not.

As a Bow Hunter, I have concerns about the legality of carrying a sidearm while bowhunting.
Presently,in this state it is illegal to carry a sidearm while bow hunting. Most states allow carrying.
I bumped several bears in the dark last year going to my hunting spots. A 400 pound boar growling 50 feet away in the dark while you only have a bow and a head light makes you think about life and things.

I carry the scars of what a house cat interrupted during mating season will do. Lessons learned during oblivious youth.

 

Saw this big fellow near my lake house in Winsted. Saw him cross the road as I was leaving and stopped to take a pic and video. He keeps looking back at me like "what?"

This little guy got under the zapper wire and did damage to my BIL's hives back in May...

That one has some girth!
You can tell a mature one by the flat on top of it's head and the distance between the ears.

 

Norfolk and colebrook are real nice towns too.
