Good morning fellow Porchatonians!!! Retiring at 62 was good for Lynn - aging parents needing care kinda pushed that decision, too. 65+ 2 months worked well for me from both the transition at work and the $$. In the end, I think you just have to run the numbers and go with what makes the most sense in your finances and your heart.

    Good Morning 6
Yes Sir, I've always been a "gut feel" decision maker; which is close to my heart, I reckon.;)
Yesterday didn't tell me anything money wise I wasn't expecting, but I walked out with the gut feeling 65 will be right for me. Nice to have confirmation and know that if life throws a curveball, we'll be ok without much hardship. :)
Have a great day Colonel! :hattip:

    RESPECT :oldglory:

So the tech showed up at 1:45. I would have had time to go to Costco and spend some more money, LOL. Hope the retirement planning goes well for you.

How did you know? LOL The tech was really great. He repaired the broken npart so it would be stronger than new and replaced the good motor too. He left the replaced working motor with me to gather dust in the garage. ;) The problem turned out to be a broken board that stabilized the back of the chair being raised or lowered. Funny the broke part was a pressed wood product and the rest of the frame was plywood. Wife and I decided we will never buy from Laz-E-Boy again.

Still worth retiring i would bet. ;)

    :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Good morning. Off to the gym, then back home to practice the guitar. Then off to a physical therapy appointment, recycle some Styrofoam, make a Costco run, stop at Harris Teeter on the way home to pick up two 99 cents a pound pork shoulder, then home to get ready to go out to a winery at 4:30. Busy day.

It went very well, thanks. We're where we thought we were ... and smarter on the process and where we want to make some slight adjustments. :)

According to this information I should have quit about 30 years ago......Not sure how I would have lived......

Good morning and happy Friday to all.

How about taking a voluntary severance package at 49yo? Human Resources rep said she couldn't remember the last time someone smiled the whole time they were being debriefed. Handed in my ID badge and laptop, left all my technical documents in my locker, rode my Road Glide home, took off my watch and tossed it in the gun safe and never looked back. That was 18 years ago. I started running the numbers when I was in my early 30's and it paid off way better than I could have imaged. ;) I just hope the condescending commenter (in a different thread) who thinks the"older generations who are clueless about technology" reads this.

:pccoffee:  sixtys/wannabes/number crunchers. One of the options I explored when nearing retirement was working fewer days per week. I still enjoyed my job but I was helping my parents more and more, plus other family stuff was taking up time, plus I just wanted to have more free time. I cut back to 4 days/week for several years, then to 3 days/week. I was lucky to have a job and employer that allowed me to do that and still keep stuff like medical benefits.
It sounds like you have options. That has to feel good.

Yes Sir it does. It was nice to get the information and run some numbers ... the little uncertainties are not such a mystery now. And we picked up some pointers on where to make some beneficial tweaks.

Retirement...retired at 53 from the first job and because the wife was still working I (foolishly) got another job. Worked that one for 12 years and because of the bull s#@t bailed 6 months short of full SS. But keeping my sanity was worth it. I looked at the numbers and it iwas all good. Not wealthy but comfortable so I consider my self ahead in the game :D.

    Life is good:thumbsup:

... you know, it occurs to me, I had this discussion with My Chief about 9 yrs ago when management at work kept asking me to apply for more senior supervisory positions. I felt they were cajoling me into a position where I'd become a pawn in their game. Felt I wouldn't be able to put up with the BS for the long haul. Looking back on that time now, I think I made the right call. Something to be said for being a worker, "Lead," but still basically a worker with the satisfaction of seeing tangible results of your labor without the complications of management politics. :)

Morning all. I retired in May at 64 after talking to our financial adviser. He said I could've done it 2 yrs ago. I enjoyed the job. Mostly training people and answering tons of questions. I miss all of the people I worked with but the wife and I are still healthy and hope we get some good years of retirement. I can always do something part time if needed.
