Why can’t you do your own brake bleeding?

Dunno, apperently you are supposed to use Techstream to do it right?

    @Slashaar?

could have sworn the only one that needed a special process was the offroad models?

    No.

Only if you're bleeding the ABS module. The off-road and pro have the ability to do this without techstream. That being said, a regular vacuum or gravity bleed works just fine. It's very rare that the ABS modules actually get air in them unless you are running the truck and actively pumping the brakes while sucking all the fluid out and not replacing any. But why would you do that anyway so... Lol

Gotcha. Just had my brake fluid flushed the other week when I took my truck in for a wheel/ tire rotation and balanced. Asked them to do it and probably turn the rotors and install new pads. Said pads and rotors were good. I was surprised as they have 90k on them and are factory original lol.

Good man does his fluid at the same time as pads and rotors.

That was my plan. I ran out of time to do it before a trip and now that I use my truck to tow the camper and family I just needed to get it done. At 100k I’m replacing rotors and pads anyways. I’ll dump it all then anyways and replace.

If you have an off-road you with the booster you can activate it with techstream to basically do the bleeding for you. Other models are like any other vehicle

Sold mine and somehow these things still show up in my driveway lol

he was having a issue with his pads and rotors had some rocks in it or somethin so no more noise now but I noticed his driver side hub is making a load of noise so it prob won’t last much longer

So like 2 years ago I replaced my rear brake lines and lost a lot of fluid during the process. The reservoir emptied out meaning air in the system.... New brake lines in, I bled and bled and bled, but never got much air out. Figured good enough. Brakes worked, could be locked up etc. However the pedal would drop after coming to a complete stop, meaning air in the system or soft lines stretching. Fast forward to last year, I replaced both front rotors and pads and both drums and shoes. During the front passenger I noticed my hard line was bent and sorta pinched, so my bright idea was to try to bend it back. It snapped almost immediately, so I pinch it off to not lose fluid and go to the store and got a new line. bent it to shape and installed. Topped off the fluid, it didn't lose much. Still, after all that I bled and bled and bled, and still not much air. Pedal remained the same. So I figured 'air in the abs, it has to be' because everywhere I looked said if the reservoir empties the ABS is almost certain to get air in it. So I finally decided to have it done since I don't have an offroad (I've got a sport) and can't do the one wire short to actuate the power bleed. Gotta have techstream. Took it in, they held it overnight, got it at almost 3pm Saturday. THE PEDAL STILL DOES IT. They claim 'well it improved a little, but they think for another $80 we could tune the rear drums and that'd improve your pedal.' I told them no. They already hosed me out of ~$360 they're not getting another $80 to 'clean and adjust my drum breaks' when all I have to do is pop out the little rubber plug and adjust the tensioner. I'll give it a go before I leave for CO, but I doubt that's it. When I did the rear drums I adjusted them till they just barely drug the drums so I know it's were it should be, and I know I had the issue PRIOR to the rear drum replacement which involved all new springs.

Worst case scenario, its actually my calipers going south. If they are leaking very little, then it'd be hard to tell since it'd get lost while braking, but I'm not seeing any fluid loss at the reservoir so :notsure:

Best part of my dealer experience was the valet guy walking up when I pulled up and going "Damn, I bet there's less than 50% of this thing still stock huh?". Service writer was friendly, but I feel like I got robbed.

    Speaking of brake work:

I've been fixing the brake system on my '78 F250 - master cylinder, brake booster, and soft lines. Through some miracle, every bolt and fitting popped free without much fuss, which is nigh unheard of for a 45-year-old midwest truck. Only the driver's-side hard line leading into the soft line rounded off, and it was a fairly quick fix, all things considered. So yeah, things are going too easily. Where's the catch?

Started bleeding the system last night. Working on the passenger rear and hear an odd noise. Look over to the hard line running along the frame to the rear axle and find a pinhole geysering fluid everywhere. And of course some of the mounting straps for said line are hidden behind the auxiliary fuel tank. Here we go...

If you don't have frozen pistons on your front caliper, internal intermediate seal failure on the master cylinder is the likely culprit.

Well, what would you rate the difficulty of repair on a scale of "NAPA parking lot fix" to "Rollback tow to the crusher"?

    Replacing a master cylinder?

    Like a 2/10.

But it's a $1200 ish part for a TRD Off Road. And like ... $163 for a sport.

    :anonymous:

Then you get to bleed it all again, with the freshest of fluid
