I bought truck with 17k miles as 3rd owner 2nd owner put in sc. has 101k miles now. Learning how to do all the services and stuff here as was told to come here by mechanic friend. Today I took out the brass restrictor valve thing that gets stuck in the hose. I don’t know for sure but it seems like it made it run better. So I got this little knuckle buster out now do I throw it in the trash? I probably know better to just keep it in the glove box so I don’t lose it just in case I need it but is there any need to hold onto this thing or we’ll it just get stuck in the hose again?

With help for the great folks here. I changed the transmission fluid and transfer case oil today from Toyota oem crap oil to redline MT90. Shifts slots smoother. I ordered oil to do the front and rear differentials too,
Ultra1Plus™ SAE 75W-90 Synthetic Transmission 6 pack cheers for the front are rear differentials. Was 1/3 the price. Hope I don’t cry later. Thanks for all the good mechanic advise

Save it somewhere just in case you ever want to put it back in.

I pulled mine out super long ago and never looked back.

Yeah it's kind of useless if you ask me. The only benefit it has is easing the transition from vacuum into boost and if I really wanted that I'd do it with my right foot. :notsure:

I put the Ruth plugs in and have the ikh24’s(stage two cold). I’m getting a tiny bit of detonation at weird times. Low rpm, on hard acceleration demand from lower rpm. I think it’s still a heat issue but I don’t even know what fuel pump is in there I’m wondering about it it’s stock

Are you saying that you are running two different types of plugs in there?

Some tip in detonation/ knock is somewhat normal on these trucks. These engines are not known to run the absolute cleanest possible, and some of the external factors that influence or affect that is fuel quality and ambient temperatures. If you live in a convection oven like Arizona then of course you're going to have issues with that.

i have used those plugs too. my next set will likely be 22's as im running meth when i push hard. and im in the PNW its cooler and more temperate than other boosted bretheren. i rely on the tuning master @JustDSM to help with knock controll.

@12TRDTacoma your response to @JasonLee about rebuild the s/c only if it sounds needing service sounds different than your typical maintenance views. im only asking as i know youre proactive about stuff. curious why a 100k service could be passed on.

Because much like any other item which involves intricate tear downs it's not like that is something easy to do like the drive roller bearings, plugs, oil changes or something the likes. It involves machinery which is not usually accessible unless you have shop resources and can be somewhat costly if you do not.

I am all about maintenance and preventative maintenance at that, yes I will never deny that. However, I am also all about sensible maintenance and preventative maintenance, and something like the supercharger drive bearings, snout bearings, removal, reinstallation in and of itself is not something which I would label a sensible job and it's my opinion that it shouldn't be dealt with until it absolutely has to be taken care of.

I tend to run with the old saying, "if it ain't broken don't fix it." I don't apply that to every facet of automotive, but for certain things, yes, and this is one of them.

It's sort of like replacing the hybrid lithium battery pack on your Prius before it needs to be dealt with, replacing your engine before it starts to get rod knock, or doing a full rebuild on your transmission even if it is not slipping. Who does that, no one, unless you have money to burn and a hole in your pocket, you know what I mean?

(For the record, my blower is sitting at 100K, and I have zero intention on doing any internal service to it unless or until I absolutely have to.)

I may go back to the regular plus or the other 22’s next chance but def or fuel pump even though @12TRDTacoma hates me for it I still have stock fuel pump and the last few times we checked times it was still doing it thing. I do have one to swap out but an item o haven’t got to. sooo I will l hopefully soon but I doubt that’s the issue.

I had forgotten about the restrictor jet mod, and mentioned it over on the Tundra forum. The bypass valve is on the front of the s/c and stupid easy to get to. Seems like only 10% of the members over there even knew about it! Got some newly excited users over there for a free and easy mod lol. Linked them to page 1 here

Also, I started a Jeep Hemi swap video the other day, and in the first 10 seconds he mentions his other Gladiator is down because of a bad RIPP coil...so it's not just Tacomas....maybe best just stay away from them.

Edit with link. In first 11 seconds he says "Another misfire with the RIPP coils"
