Yeah, technically you should get better gas mileage with a Turbo. Problem is, most people drive them like they have a Turbo (because of course) which tends to make the MPG's worse.

People seem to disregard that the F-150 has had a turbo in its best selling engine for the past 15~ years.

Turbos are the future, and to say they aren’t as reliable as a V6 is silly and ignorant.

Time will tell if the new Tacoma motor will be as reliable as the previous naturally aspirated engines but to make assumptions is a slippery slope.

I drove the Tacoma back in 2020 and I wasn’t impressed with the truck at all, no power and a sloshy transmission. I think this new small displacement + turbo design is exactly what the Tacoma needs.

If you’re worried about towing with a turbo you should be looking at another truck. Tacomas are not for towing.

    Depends largely what you tow.

What does sloshy mean? I guess I am not up on the new technical jargon.

In theory, the turbo will bring better MPG. However, theory is theory until put in practice. Then reality sets in. People will drive the turbo engine like it’s Fast and Furious.

Guess what, 70MPH is 70MPH in any car. The rate at which I get there is seconds apart. I would care if my name was Dom and I was bald but I’m not and I’m not. So I use my truck as a workhorse. I got the Tacoma to so I can run around in the dirt a bit without needing modifications. You want a fast Toyota? Get a Supra.

Wouldn’t this same logic apply to buying a v6 vs the 2.7 in the third gen?

All of it. Wouldn’t people drive the more powerful v6 around like they’re dom Torretto?

It wouldn’t stop hunting for gears and didn’t feel confident in switching gears.

Sure if all you’re pulling is a light weight tear drop trailer or pop up tent. I live in Utah and wouldn’t trust a Tacoma to pull anything heavier at a steep grade.

Well, I’ve pulled quite a bit of stuff that would refute your view, newbie. Check the 3rd gen towing threads for more evidence.

Out of the loop here. Is that actually required for the wastegate repair? My god.

Because the seating position is worse than a compact crossover. The floor is ridiculously high, the seat ridiculously short, and the roof ridiculously low.

Toyota admitted their mistake with this when talking about how they improved it in the 4th gen.

Aren't most Toyotas designed this way? With the exception being the 2nd gen Tundra. Tacoma might have the smallest interior dimension by far.

I don’t know, all I know is that the 4th gen was designed to fix it.

I don't think it's dramatically different, recall the videos saying they moved the seat up 1-1/2".
