I think if it never snowed, or developed the deep rutted muddy roads here in the spring, I'd never buy a 4wd again. Being here in the northeast, where I'm at, you gotta have at least front wheel drive, and even that isn't enough in some cases.

One extremely narrow view point but this would be the only reason to justify 4wd down here. Good tires on a 2WD, I don’t see an issue. All of the weight is on the back axle tires. People have been launching boats for decades from station wagons and sedans. Suddenly we need an F350 to launch a jet ski.

I too have seen plenty of people up here in Canaveral trying to pull a BOAT (not a jet ski) out at low tide and just spinning away on the algae covered ramp. With 4x4 the front tires will still likely be on clean dry pavement for traction.

My needs are different, but agree if I didn’t need a 4wd, I wouldn’t own one. There was a time when I never left pavement and drove 2wd trucks happily.

I am noticing the same thing at about 38-40MPH and it goes away at 50+mph. I was going to test putting it back on to see if the noise went away. I am planning on getting a TRD skid plate at some point to see if that resolves the issue when the air dam is off. I wonder if one of the other models without the air dam have the same issue?

I took mine off very soon after I bought the truck. It looks wayyy better with it off and I saw basically zero change in my gas mileage personally. The front looks too tall and goofy with it on. Literally just a couple bolts holding it on

    all tore up already
Grab hole plugs from lowes and start filling in holes in lower control arms. It isnt surprising a hollow lca with a bunch of holes makes whistles. The lca are very similar to gen 2 except these have about 50 more holes in them.

Interesting how OP did two posts and then bounced.

Maybe it was because he leased the truck in question--it has to stay on when the truck is returned...or he buys it.

Took mine off when I installed the TRD Skid.

Bob, all of us males are operating with modified female parts. I think the air dam analogy is closer to a salty gluteal augmentation!? At least the way you are thinking about it.

Like the OP I was stupid enough to modify my lease truck. And then I did something even stupider and bought/paid off my lease truck. I really like that truck.

Congrats on ditching the plastic and corrugated sheet for an actual cobblestone deflector.

    Thanks Rock!

    Sorry about your situation. :(

In 4 years, I've spent well over my $5K threshold for upgrades and with the TRD Lift dealership install (Shocks only), increased it by $2300.

I'm guessing an estimated $8500...might as well say $9K in that time.

Still got a DB Tonneau cover to put on my Wish List...that's another $1500+.

I am happy as can be, riding a little higher now. :D

I made the mistake of tallying all of my purchases on an Excel sheet. I think my spending is a little higher than yours. :cookiemonster: But at least for the moment, it's stable. Hand me my Tacomaholic coin, I've gone one year without modding it.

So far the Miata has about 2 grand of silliness in it, making it by far the cheapest vehicle in the driveway. The pop-up camper has that beat twice over, and the Tacoma by five times. I think. I'm refusing to make the mistake of putting any more cars on the Excel sheet. I discovered that I'm happier not knowing.
