Sad to say but you really need to keep an eye on the prices.

It is business practice to low ball some new customers to they expect good prices then no longer even look to close at the invoice.

Then the more feet of a given product a distributor buys impacts the price .

With the supply chain issues prices are going to be all over the place.

My last purchase of 3"x5"x3/16" rectangle (tube 24 feet ) I paid $7.30 per foot.

Prices have been consistent, at least with me as a customer, for the last year.

Then again it's just the supplier in general as a lot of people there are repeat customers.

Bad business practice to make a few extra bucks on someone only for them to never return.

I had accounts with all my vendors many times the counter people have no idea of the prices .They can quote list prices or call higher up.

This is also long term it might take a year or more to happen and often is from a change in upper management.

trying to increase profits over customers being satisfied.

Then having a sales person to yell at is very different.

Then different regional areas people are very different.

Regional areas would definitely be the biggest factor I think.

Supply definitely isn't an issue since there are mayne +5 metal suppliers within 20 minutes from me.

I think of Steel coming from the Steel Mill or as of late off the Boat. As the supply not the local level.

It creates a supply and demand issue .

Causing spot shortages which increases prices. For what ever reason some spring steel is almost impossible to find.

An interesting topic in any case.

I don’t want sound like I am relying on the welder settings but does anyone have a reference chart for dig settings?

I just don’t weld enough in any production capacity to memorize it, but weld enough with different size and types of electrodes that it would be nice to have a quick reference. No, the machine manual didn’t saying anything about it I don’t think.

Every machine is different, even using the same wire thickness and working on the same thickness metal.

With that disclaimer out of the way, knock yourself out.

    20230701_161044.jpg

Although you'll have better results just googling your own welder and pulling up their reference sheet.

Even those settings are just a guideline.

I don't know of any welder that uses their welder's own sheet. I never have.

Those are just the wire amps/speed setting for mig. I’m looking for arc force (DIG) settings reference for stick? It’s a gucci setting. It’s not necessary, but it helps. I can just leave it on zero and hold a tight arc, but I have the feature, so I use it. I just hate having to google it in the middle of a project, and I don’t see any for 6013 rod.

but you’re right, I don’t use the settings on the chart. I can tell if the settings are good by just the sound.

Ahh gotcha I missed the DIG part and all that.

I found that to be for deeper penetrating rods like 6010.

6013 is a fast freeze and is meant for thinner metals anyway.

6010 is deep penetrating, and fast freeze, hence the whip and pause. 6013 is more general purpose, which is why it’s not really used for anything important and has a pretty watery puddle. So no whip and pause like 6010/11. if you whip and pause it, you’ll certainly have porosity in the weld.

I use it because I switch to Electrode Neg, without having to turn down amps, and seam up some 18 gauge and some other thinner gauges. Seems to work good for that, when outside in the element. Hence no mig, and I’m too lazy to respool flux core in. Lol

I memorized the two big ones, 6010 and 7018. 80% and 30%. But i planned on using some stainless, and for a different project, some aluminum rods. Eh, it was worth the try.

I've never switched polarity, but yes I'm familiar with what 6013 is used for and how to use it.

And good call on going stick; would prefer stick over flux if welding outside. But would prefer dual shield over either of the two over stick or flux ;)

Any of you so-cal guys want to buy an EVO185HD saw?

    It's a metal cutting saw with 7 1/4" blade.

I got it last year brand new and raved about it as it cut very well leaving burr-free and square cuts.

Problem is, I only used it two different times and having a plasma cutter and bandsaw, I rather have space back.

Just put it on marketplace for $150 but I'll do a solid $120 for you guys here.

    357610883_9673600806047730_6410340795750410801_n.jpg

Although if you want the stand (29.5" tall on 1/4" thick base) you'll have to add another $50.

Ah, you're the dude that got it.

    Nice score!

Light scrubbing with a scotch pad and some wd40 on those rails and she'll be rolling good as new; really the rails look cleaner than my own :anonymous:

Only time I’ve used the settings inside the welder is when I’m asked to jump to a material/thickness I haven’t welded in a long time and I want to confirm it my logical starting point is close to their mathematical one ha.

If I’m nowhere near it I’d be more worried than, eh, that’s not THAT far off :D
