:pccoffee:  sixtys/wannabes/smoke eaters. The forecast keeps saying the smoke is going to get better around us, and it keeps looking pretty much the same to me. Rain in the forecast should help.

The Canadian wildfires this year are on an entirely different scale, if you can imagine (I really can't to be honest). Over TWENTY MILLION acres have burned so far. That's an area the size of the entire state of South Carolina. Mind boggling.

I fixed Yet Another Oil Leak on the Caterham yesterday, then took it out for a short run to verify. I think I'll go out for a longer spin today, maybe stop off at the cemetery to say hi to the parents. No big plans for us this weekend besides eating leftovers; my wife keeps cooking up these huge casserole recipes that are more than we can eat in one sitting. The fridge is bursting at the seams!

Stay safe this weekend, and Happy Birthday America. :oldglory:

Good morning. Up early at 5 am and had the pork shoulder on at 6am. Been to the gym, gassed up the car for a trip to the ocean tomorrow and hit the grocery store for items to make coleslaw.

    Started the cook yesterday afternoon.
Kicking the month off right with a pork shoulder, from HT @99cents a lb. Cut hash marks on both sides and wiped on some chipotle pepper and BBQ pepper rub. But into a brine overnight. The brine consisted of Kosmos Pork Soak, a squeezed lemon, some onion bits, both I had in the fridge, and some sliced up fresh garlic. Added some rib rub and sweet honey pecan rub this morning. On the grill at 06:00 this morning. Second pic is 3 and a half hours into the cook. Internal temp was 132 degrees.

107 here today. The pool is refreshing but being in the direct sun is just too much. Going to sit inside in the A/C drink ice cold lemonade, have some popcorn and watch some old movies. Wife wants to start with the old western classic High Noon from 1952. Haven’t decided on my choice yet, I’m thinking of African Queen with Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn but I’m not sure. That’s probably the biggest decision I’ll make today. Brain is hurting already.
Have a great 4th all. God bless the USA!

When I looked it was 84 and humid here. So it must be really hot elsewhere.

It's NOT 100! We have passing clouds!
All I did was cut down a small dead branch on our mountain laurel. Looks stupid now, but not worse!

    20230701_120219.jpg

Then, finally replace the randomly tapping blend door actuator.
Right where I left it after the blower and resistor repair.

Replaced the junk filter I put in last month too, with a Bosch this time.

Pool is almost as warm, but it's  time.

We don't have central air in the house, they want a fortune to replace it. Been using 2 portable ac units and fans to cool the house. The bedroom is very comfortable but the rest of the house gets warm when it's really hot out. So today I replaced the unit in the kitchen/living room with a 14,000 btu window unit. It's cooling down nicely now. I had to get creative to close of the wide window with some plywood, etc. This unit should be more efficient than the old portable unit. The house has come down 4 degrees in an hour and it's still dropping so I think this unit is going to be nice.

All we use are Vornado brand fans. Winter, with a wood stove, and summer with windows open.

Good Morning My Porchatonian Mentors

I've got the crew building up pallets of boxes and a C130 prop ... take care of two load plans and we'll be covered thru the 4th ... barring any urgent requirements popping up. Maybe the troops will catch some sprout time outside of when the planes need loading.
    :fingerscrossed:

    Hope all are well.

    RESPECT :oldglory:

Good morning. Off to the ocean is about an hour.

Cook took 11.5 hours including an hour rest. Decided to wrap in paper then wrap in foil for the rest period.

:rocket: Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue! You're up way too early for me....oh wait, I got up and went to the car show, and pics will follow. I'll catch up after I edit and post.
Found the LAST mural in Lockhart, without cars parked in front. Might have to go try again.
