1GR-FE (Single VVTi) Dyno Testing by OTT

Wanted to give you guys a heads-up that we're going to put the 2014 4.0L back on the dyno and do some further testing of the common modifications that are popular on these vehicles in N/A form. Our goal will be to help inform the community of what works and what doesn't.

We are planning to test the following intake systems:
Stock Airbox w/ aFe dry drop in filter w/ OE fender ducting
Stock Airbox w/ aFe dry drop in filter w/ improved cowl ducting
Other aftermarket intakes (based on users sending us them to test/return)

We'll also be testing:
URD 70mm throttle body adaptor w/ a 2010+ 4Runner 70mm throttle body
URD -3° cam gears
URD Spec-U equal-length exhaust system
Intake manifold spacer
RB VVTi Solenoids

Would you guys like to see any other bolt-on parts tested? If you have something you'd like to see, we'd love to hear about it.

It'd be cool to see exactly how little power I gained by throwing money away. Also, I'm excited to see the headers. I want some, but I don't want to install them

 

I'll pick up a spacer for the test. Good suggestion.

 

Red Bullet VVT-i solenoids?

 

If someone sends me a set, I'll test them and return them. Not something I'm interested in purchasing (sorry).

If @SUMOTNK doesn’t throw down a pair I could pull mine for science. I’m only missing the 70mm throttle body but have all the other mods listed in the first test you want to try. I’ve been curious what my N/A set up is putting out.

 

I’ve been wondering what gains 70mm would add.

 

Sorry, I'm not a manufacturer, retailer, nor social influencer I'm only a person who only wanted to see the solenoid GB happen and be the owner of one, I've already donated my time and money to see these through development, 2x separate independent dyno sessions, and shared the results. For further proof in the pudding, the idea of sending a set from an end user @Shadowhunter to OTT is probably the way to go.

Just installed cam gears today. I think that the tune was a much bigger difference than the gears on top of the tune!

Is there a different tune for those with cam gears?

 

@JustDSM with OTT will set your truck straight. The cam gears perform best with a matched tune.

This 2G testing is next up on our list. I plan to get the truck back on the rollers in stock form to do some further testing and get a new baseline for the vehicle. With this round, we'll present the results for the following:

Stock - Bone stock w/ freshly performed maintenance. New plugs, fluids throughout, filters, etc. Basically what a 80K mile 2G in tip top shape can do.

Edit: for clarity's sake, I'm slowly gathering parts to install before getting the OTT tune. Gonna be a one and done kinda deal.

Might as well throw in urd headers and a y pipe. Opening up the exhaust a bit helps. That's next for me hopefully
