Advice like that only goes so far if you're looking at total cash involved. If I find a 3K deal, but in order to get it I need to fly across the country and drive it back, then the numbers kind of balance out. Flights, especially last minute ones, are expensive this year. Fuel to drive 2,000-3,000 miles is also expensive. Then add in hotels, lost wages taking off work for a week, etc; and you aren't too far off completely nullifying the savings off sticker. There are also certain states that charge Use Taxes on vehicles sold within their borders, even if you're immediately exporting it to another state where you need to pay sales tax to register it.

When I was searching in Oregon a few months ago, I found a few deals for in-stock trucks at $1,000 off or $1,500 off in states like Oklahoma and North Dakota. But when I ran the math, I wouldn't have come out ahead versus just taking an MSRP deal in Oregon. The few dealers I found around me that had those same discounts on Tacomas didn't have any unclaimed MY models in stock or allocation. So they were unfortunately a non-starter for me. When I picked up my truck last month, there were a total of 7 stick TRDOR Tacomas on sale nationally. I didn't exactly have a ton of choice in who I purchased from.

Point is, it's tough out there with production ending while on the backside of an international crisis and a flippant "git gud" response isn't the whole story. Your bro got very lucky with that deal and I'd be curious to know where they got it.

Also, is it your cousin or your brother that's gotten this deal? Because you've said it both ways.

Was supposed to be my cousin, but a few days prior to pickup he asked my brother (who also wanted one if he wanted it since he was also looking) so there was a last minute change to the deal. Either way, we were bringing it home- the numbers didn’t change at all so the deal still stood regardless(didn’t have to negotiate the 3k off) - just checked and it was $2,800 off but close enough to 3k.

I’ve bought quite a few Tacomas so i found this one for him

    And even more limited production.

Trust me, finding a stick one at any price, let alone with a discount, is tough.

    What dealership?

There are basically no manuals unspoken for across the country , much more difficult to find

Yeah the pros have always sold close to MSRP though so that was never the point about getting 3-4K off MSRP … would only be for the sports and off roads that are produced more

My misunderstanding... I was going by what you wrote, not what you meant...

I meant what I wrote, Limited and Pros are going for sticker or with mark ups, if you are able to find one on the ground, not under agreement.

Thank you for explaining that you weren't talking about Pros, but I was.

2023 TRD OR MSRP was $41,806 inc delivery fees.
Truck had $6000 of BS dealer add-ons. Shit like Predator steps, clear paint protection, windshield treatment, appearance package, GPS tracking, ceramic paint protection, cloth seat protection. In fact, EVERY TRD on the lot had these add-ons. I told them I wanted the truck & would pay their $41,806 & that was it. They would have to eat the add-ons. That stuff must have a huge mark-up because they didn't put up much of a fight. Only slight fight which only lasted a few minutes were the steps. Probably because it was the only thing they could remove. They left them on & sold it at MSRP. Did I save $6000? Hell no but I feel I got a fair deal.

Nice! Maybe needed a few more sales to hit big end of month/quarter/year sales goals?

Got no money off MSRP, but it was a dealer trade for a rare loaded manual, so my negotiating position was crap. I was able to strongarm them on the trade due to it being the last day of the month, and they were clearly itching to get the deal done.

I bought one back in 19 for tax purposes and to use it as a run around car, it now has 21K on it. Time for another. Well built little trucks. I got this one via Costco. I like the smaller cab bigger bed. Wife has been drivin it a lot, likes it better than her Subaru. I wish Toyota made a diesel dually. Weird oil filter over tightened by dealer free service was my only complaint on the last one. Wish there was room to chain up front tires. Switched headache rack to new truck. Probably sell the old one when I get sick of paying insurance on it.

    My OTD pice was $42,491.

2023 Lunar Rock Sport 4x4 short bed auto trans.

No discounts. I found it on the Toyota website "Find Yours" that shows vehicles in transit to dealerships.

I didn't want the Toyo Guard protection package but feel good about the price as the lunar rocks are really popular, and dealership didn't add on any other fees and was only 2 weeks out. I can't wait any longer.

In past 4 months sold my 2019 F150 for 3k more than I paid for it. Drove a 12 year old CRV for 3 months while waiting for a new one. Traded that in for 13,400 to Carmax for 2021 Tundra, and returned the Tundra, 38,900 for full refund becaue it had been in a wreck and put down deposit in 2023 Taco. I really wanted the Lunar Rock so willing to pay MSRP.

Glad I didn't wait as all three previous vehicles had issues and sold or traded them to dealerships.

Very straightforward sales person. No disocunts. but no nonsense. Other dealers are adding on fees. I also noticed that the base MSRP went up almost $400 in past 7 days. I did a "build" on the Toyota website and it was about $400 more than what I'm paying.

But if this one is late getting there and I can find a 2023 Tundra Lunar Rock Sport or OR at MSRP and no add ons, I'll get that. But might really enjoy a mid size truck and can live with it for 3 years no problem. I'm not that fussy. This will be great for my work with rentals and sales, and I like having a truck for other projects.

MSRP, no discounts, 40523 + TTL, fees. 44.4K OTD. No extra fees are dealer installed items. Feel lucky about that, but also cheated that shit is so expensive these days.

I put a $500 deposit at two dealerships, Longo and Toyota Carlsbad. Was at the mercy of allocations, and Carlsbad advertised the model I got. Contacted, put $500 down and viola. Longo was helpful as well, and happily refunded me the deposit. All contact was via email.

Was holding out for an access cab, but I was running out of patience.
