I started a thread in the B/S/T as well but thought I’d reach out here too. I’m selling my Mr. Marv box, amp rack, sub and amp setup for a 3rd gen double cab. Sweet little setup with very low hours on it. Pm for details if interested, located in Washington.

 The speakers are breaking in nicely, sounding much fuller than when I first did the install. Going to give them another week or 2 and then retune the system again.

Build on 2023 TRD OR keeping the stock headunit. Went with dual sealed Kicker L7t's powered by a Sundown SAE 1000D in a custom box behind rear seat. For speakers, installed component Focal Flax FXE biamp 6.5's in basic custom mdf adapters. Relocated the tweeters to the sail panels. These are powered by the JL JD400 amplifier and using all 4 channels in 2 channel input mode for the biamp crossovers. Left rear speakers empty. Using the audiocontrol DQ-61 to control the signal and delay. Overall I like this product a lot for the application, but in the long run a DM-608 would likely have been better. The focal flax with the included crossovers and the basic audiocontrol time alignment and eq settings work very well together for a reasonable price and easily works with stock headunit.
The bed liner finish worked well and is durable and not too scratchy with a not too glossy finish. I used Duplicolor brand after not liking one coat of rustoleum.
used about 60sqft of butyl and 30sqft of closed cell foam to do doors, part of floors, rear wall, and several other interior panels.
Mounted the audiocontrol knob flush on a factory switch with some minor modification.

Very clean install, nice job! I'd like to upgrade to the focal flax 3 ways and put the mid in the dash and tweeter in the same spot on the door.

Thanks for the feedback! That is definitely a good idea, likely down the road will go 3 way active with the F3E and a different DSP and amp, maybe the dm-608 or Focal. Considered 3 way a long time going into this build, but overall saved about 1000 on gear for a similar 3 way active setup, and easy enough to upgrade. Mostly for this reason, decided to keep it simple with the 2-way bi-amp and see how much is left to be desired for sound stage.

That look like a great set up I’m actually heading out to install the Audison AVK 6.5 components with custom alate tweeter pods that I made myself and Audison Prima 2inch speakers in the dashboard locations

Opposite headrest indeed, I find it I bit more interesting/tasteful listening to high notes away rather than closer up my ear.
In fact I just finished adding the audison 2 inch speakers on the dashboard altogether they sound more cohesive

Clean setup brother! I have a set of of the Skar SPX-T’s in the stock door location on my second gen. I’m about to get a second set for a custom sail panel job like yours. Should round off the highs for my system. I’m about to fit some 8 inch deaf bonce Sylvester mid ranges in my front doors after I finish my Big 3 upgrade and D3100 batt install.

That sounds like a good plan, hope you share some pictures of your custom work as you go. It will take patience and a lot of sanding but it’s all worth in the end. Good luck

Has anybody tried a shallow NVX sub in a double cab? I've still got a pair of 8" Kicker Comps in a small sealed box with about 300 watts going to them... but curious if going to a single 12" in a sealed box would give me lower frequency response and a bit more punch with bass-heavy music. The 8s sounds great for rock music, but they find their limits pretty quickly with EDM or anything with low bass. Just curious. The NVX shallow subs look like an interesting option.

1 12 sealed is going to hit harder than 2 8's in a sealed box

but if you're looking for loud/low, a 10" ported will blow both away...

Interesting to hear that a 10 would be louder if ported. My problem is that I'm looking at pre-fab boxes on eBay (kind of on a whim) and I have no idea what the ported versions of those boxes are tuned for, subwoofer-wise. I think I might give the single 12 a shot.

porting does other things besides just being "loud".

yep, everything is give and take.

it's the same as asking any car forum the question "what's the perfect vehicle/engine?"

jeep forums are going to start saying it starts with the offroad capability
sports car forums will say it has everything to do with handling characteristics
truck forums will say it's all about load carrying on and off road

for every box and every sub, there's a list of positives and negatives. you just need to come up with what is most important, and what negatives you can deal with in your specific usage.

sealed allows the most compact box size, with the smoothest frequency response, but because of the small box size, the lower end frequencies tend to taper off.

ported allows the most output as you're 'using both sides' of the sub, but the box typically needs to be 2x's larger than the same sub in a sealed box, port tuning frequency also plays an intricate part in the subs characteristics-- tuned within the subs output, it can add a significant boost. tuned underneath the output, it can make the sub dig deeper. port shape and length effect the tuning frequency, and overall system 'Q', but port noise can occur and take away from the overall sound.

passive radiator boxes characteristically fall between the two. generally they need to be at least 2x's the size of a sealed box, but they don't suffer from the port noise issue, and depending on the passive radiator used, can be tuned just as effectively. though there's some sort of unspoken rule that they're globally illegal for car audio installations, for reasons that still remain unclear to me. which is why i built one for my truck...

I'm the stereotypical user. I want a sub that does everything equally well without paying a fortune. I finally went active, so now I want a tad more low-end than the 8s are offering. I think a single sealed 12 is the ticket.

I guess another question is what am I sacrificing by going to a shallow 12 vs two 8s of normal construction?
