I really like it! I had a sit on scag for a long time and this is amazing. I drive a truck for a living and my back bothers me and I get no back pain standing on that machine. Ease of getting on and off and just how much maneuvering has increased.

It is a little judgemental gnome, my wife says hes the cause of general mischief in our house.
Just normal engine oil 15W50 or actual hydraulic oil? I will look for a filter and fill hole when I am changing the blades in a few weeks.

That makes sense that standing would be better after hours on end of driving a truck, I think they look a lot better then the sit down ZT but they are only seems to be commercial grade and I cant justify the price for the little I do.

I won’t go back on a sit down again.

I've been wanting to find a commercial stander to rehab. The sit down ZT's come of so often and they sell so fast, I don't know if I need to broaden my knowledge base.

The Exmark, Toro and John Deere units I work on use 15/50 engine oil. I guess you are gonna have to go to the "cloud" to see what those use.

It's easier to find walk behinds [and use a sulky] then actual standers, especially for a decent price. I snagged a 48'' Ferris A month or so ago for $800 and considered that a decent buy. 15hp Kawasaki engine, new air filter, and some adjustments and some grease and that was it. I almost never see walk behinds or standers come up for sale, however, I'm not looking on auction sites either. I'd bet a of newer/smaller lawn companies search high and low for quality commercial lawn equipment like walk behinds/standers. You are correct, riders/ZT's are much easier to find though most still don't go for cheap if a quality name brand and taken care of.

Found a Dixie Chopper hydro walk behind with a sulkie that has a 26hp Generac on it, thought about buying it for the motor for my Ferris.

the Dixie needs a wheel motor, I’d kinda feel bad yanking the motor off when the rest is in decent shape. They’re only asking $400…

Yeah I've seen a fair amount of used sulky style mowers for sale but when I looking for a couple months I didn't see a single used stand on ZT, I assume they are more a niche market so its commercial grade users who keep their machines long term.

Yeah I'm gonna have to figure out what brand/model the transmissions are to find more, good to know that you use normal engine oil and not actual hydro oil though, I dont know anything about hydrolics other then pass vehicle power steering systems and I assume thats completely different.

Watch out for those Generac engines. Lots of them came with a tapered crankshaft. I think they make adapter shims, but haven't come across them yet.

Deck is finished up except for the idler pulley. This one sounds a bit "gravelly".

Damn, that’d have been a crappy surprise. Thanks for the heads up. I’ll poke around for adapters before I think about it any further.

So I’m on the lookout for another motor to swap on. The big ones I’m aware of that are commercial grade are Kawasaki, Kohler, Briggs & Stratton Vanguard.

Any others I should keep my eye out for? I see a lot of the Briggs Intek for sale but those are off riding mowers. I need a minimum of 23hp, but would love to upsize the motor if I can’t easily repair the current Kawi 23.

This is my first go a round with Generac. Stationary natural gas powered generator. Not too impressed with the unit, setup or operation.

Sorry, vertical. Mine is an FH680v-AS30 23hp Kawasaki.

    That doesn’t sound fun.

I think the reason for stand on's over ZT's and walk behinds with sulkies is that they take up far less room on a trailer and if the lawn service is doing large areas with multiple employees, it's far cheaper running one trailer, 3/4 stand on's and accessories over several trucks and trailers loaded with normal ZT's.

The new stand on units are miles safer than walk behind/ sulkies.

The learning curve for a hydraulic driven walk behind takes some getting used to. I repowered one last year for a customer. I tested it on my own yard. That was enough!

Squeeze the levers to go slower?! How does that make sense?
