    OPs check good! lol

Both tighten at the same tension as the gate reaches length.

Looks like adjusting the length requires some work.

I asked my wife and she said one typically hangs lower than the other.

Holy cow the Toyota apologists are out today.

It's literally wrong and they have to go on about how it's the op's fault for asking.

    Appreciate you!

I know I have dumb questions. I've had 4 trucks in the last 3 years but never had a truck before that just SUVs so it's all somewhat new to me.

    Reserected from the dead.
Can't you disconnect 1 end, twist the cable a half turn, then reattach?

It's a cable and an ⅛ inch of slack isn't exactly "tons". As long as the tailgate closes normally it's not going to hurt anything, but if it bothers you that much then take it back to the dealer.

Tape measure time- check how long the cable is between each or the crimped parts. It’s probably less than a 1/16” difference unless you are a Canuck.:canada:

I don’t see this as a real problem. Many brands of trucks are like this. But, your truck, your call. I did check my 23 Tacoma, both get tension at nearly the same time. However, my left has slightly more tension than the right. Both are tight when my far arse of 225, is sitting on the tailgate.

Buy a set or take it to the dealer. No way to tell if one is long or one is short.

OP: same issue with my new 2024 Trailhunter. Very annoying. Cables are the same length but the one on the left has maybe 1/8” of slack and stays loose even when I put weight on the tailgate. I was thinking of wrapping something around the left cable eyelet hole to tighten it, but my bigger worry is whether there’s a bigger issue.

    Did you resolve it?
