That makes more sense - the wheel is there for bling appearance, not function, like jewelry.

Basically proves that a manicured dirt road is "offroading" to anyone who would buy this

I had the exhaust re-route done and am now waiting for my transfer case skid plate to come in.
My front (aluminum) plate took a decent hit - big dent. Should I try to pound that out, or just leave it? Am a little worried that smashing it back might weaken the plate?

leave it. If i can remember correctly there was a similar situation at ardbeg this year and after removing the skid to "bend it back" the mounting holes did not line up. There was a crowd looking on and chairs were strategically placed to get a good view.
So if you decide to remove the skid to remove the dent, do it in the fall at Ardbeg so we can continue from Mr. Shveet's example and make this an annual Ardbeg tradition. :) I'm not sure if anyone helped him, lol. The TEC became union workers for that brief period. lol.

You can try straightening it with non-impact methods - shop press, large vise, or bottle jack under the vehicle. Use a block of wood between the skid and hard surfaces. As aluminum is less stiff than steel, your setup needs to be able to bend the skid past flat to account for springback.
