Don't have to, because I know for fact already. Some years ago they were tested on a buddies dyno. We did pulls before, and after with these throttle body spacers on multi port fuel injection engines. They showed no gains whatsoever after trying a couple different types....one type was even with the machined in helix which produced a cool whistle.....I think it was an air-raid brand. If anyone tries to claim different there're bs-ing you.

It's easy to see a 1-3 hp gain on the dyno as the dyno a buddy has, isn't always 100% accurate when trying to measure such small gains. You can just change the oil and you might see it. I'm looking for real gains over 6 hp, and rpm where max torque is produced vs stock.

that could just be the difference between winter blend, and summer blend fuels. you can see the increase in the spring/summer, and a decrease in late fall/winter. very common. Ski

you'd think if a spacer improved torque Toyota would have designed it that way. or maybe not.

    One would think.
I just put one in with the stock intake setup because I had to see for myself.
The whistle exists when I get on it.
The engine feels like it's breathing better but reality is perception and it's too early to tell.
I have a pedal commander so the throttle response was already remedied.
I'm not looking for a tune on a 2016. Maybe on my next one, if it needs it.

I’m not going to expect anything significant when I put mine on. Maybe I see slight results, maybe I don’t. I’m like OP though, I work mostly with my mind, so I relax by customizing my truck and working with my hands.

As far as yota design goes, the company that gave the ok on the transmission in these things probably left a lot in the wind lol

Went from a pedal commander to an OTT tune on my 2018 a few weeks ago. Other than the tune making the transmission operate a bit better, I’d prefer the throttle settings on the PC. I’d recommend you stick with the commander if you’re all about throttle, but definitely go with the tune if you’re trying to ease the gear hunting or adjusting shift points for larger tires.

I'm mostly stop/go driving so getting up to speed easier is what I was looking for. ECT also helps with that.
I feel like the aFe smoothed out the shifting but maybe it's just because I wanted it to. lol
Otherwise at the moment the aFe doesn't seem to do anything that some good plugs and a new air filter wouldn't do. (I already did that weeks prior to installing the silver bullet)
If one doesn't have the money to piss away on these aftermarket jimmy jobbies, I wouldn't.
    I just like to play!

Dude I’ve pissed so much money away adding this and that on this truck it’s almost embarrassing lol. It’s like if I don’t play around on it at least every other week it feels like something’s missing.

Yeah, it sounds like you should just stick with the PC. Tuning is not the cure all that some make it out to be.

Consensus shows on TW that tuning mostly helps the owners that tow a lot. Are on hilly terrain a lot and have the MT. Or they tossed huge tires on and need to compensate.

I love the way my tacoma performs bone stock. I can't fathom why some would want to screw them up by adding junk that is useless.

Boys and their toys but you're absolutely right. If your Tacoma isn't driving how you want it to then you bought the wrong truck.

Thanks for you review. I certainly didn't mean to stir up a hornet's nest asking for your longer term impressions. You went into this correctly and never assumed you would or wouldn't get anything out of it. You are giving honest feedback based on your own interpretation. The fact that people seem to think you now need to pay more to have tests done to "prove" something that would cost more than the thing you actually did is their own issue.

Some folks will say that everything a person has done that has made them happy was simply a placebo affect and shouldn't be used.... Except the person is now happy. An affect is an affect however you achieved it. I'm not saying that is what is happening here, but if it is it shouldn't matter!

The science behind these started in the Carburetor Days.

Carburetors started the process of mixing air and fuel for combustion. Putting a little gap between the Carb and Intake Manifold allowed a little more time for the mixture to blend well. Considering that there was zero space between Carb and Manifold, even just a half inch made a difference.

Looking at the new engines, you'd have to add that space between the injectors and the pistons somehow. The next question is, do modern injectors atomize the fuel better to the point that a spacer is no longer needed? That's arguable. Some say yes, some say no.

I'm of the opinion that there are better modifications to do for the money and that proper maintenance will make up for any loss in performance that a spacer in the correct place would offset.

BUT! This IS still AMERICA and we are a FREE NATION. As long as you keep making the payments on it, it's YOUR truck and you are free to do what you like with it.

It isn't necessarily allowing more time or more air as it is disrupting the pattern of the airflow.
Paired with a Pedal Commander I'm feeling smoother acceleration on top of the better response.
I've only had mine on a week so I don't want to say too much too soon.

How did it do w/o the pedal commander? How did the pedal commander do w/o it?
