The answer is a mixed bag. I suspect it's been cracked for a long time and I didn't notice. This bed has other repairs on the opposite corner from the PO as well (if you look closely the Bondo on the bedside in front of the driver taillight is falling off). It looks like the PO knew about it and probably had repaired it once because I pulled a random diy shelving bracket out to hold the corner together to help weld it and the holes lined up with ones in the bed.

    PXL_20230629_210706955.MP.jpg

That said I have had a hilift mounted on that same bedside off and on over the years, as well as having had an over the rails toolbox in the past. Combined with a 35" spare in the bed it's been in for a lot of abuse.

Ah, so the crack was at the front. Think the bed stiffeners would make a difference with a cross-bed toolbox?

    Stuff. Also things.
Glad it was relatively chill out there! Did you go up that step on Ironclads or down?

The one and only time I did T33, it was an absolute dumpster fire with four wheelers and SXS everywhere.

yeah, I think so. Adding bed stiffeners at the tailgate increased the rigidity of the whole bedside a decent bit. The before/after of how much I was able to flex the bed side with my own body weight was noticable.

I think that gusseting the front bed corners as well will help though I'm worried that will just result in the bed cracking somewhere else lol

I ran Ironclads CCW so I went down the big step.

Surprisingly there were no SXS on t33 itself, just some unruly jeep JK/JLs right at the end. One of them actually drove off the side of the trail about 20 yards from the parking lot where the T33 hike starts. We just parked further down and walked past that mess while the group yelled at each other and argued over how to rig the winches. They had enough adults and winches at the ready and didn't seem to need or want any third party eyes on the situation lol

last time I ran it was like you say, it was a total mess with plenty of SXS and ATVs. It's a fun trail but also one I shy away from because of the crowds. Today wasn't too bad though.

I don't think I posted pics in this thread but these are what I installed thanks to @Kwikvette

Prior to installing if I grabbed the corner above the taillight I could flex the bed about 1/8" in toward the tailgate or away from it. Now It's much less

So far you're my go to for making stuff for these trucks; I just need to modify my table so I can cut larger pieces like a skid plate or something.

That's what I was expecting too. We didn't even plan to run T33 but we were the only one on Ironclads and cruised right through it. I had budgeted a bunch of time for being held up by crowds so there was plenty to spare and decided to tack T33 on there before heading back :D

    Yus.

Drug it down roads it had no business being down because our main access flooded out the day after we got there. Proud of both the Tundra and camper (and it's dual axles), but holy fawk did Saturday morning make me consider KOAs for the rest of my life...

Maybe bracing the whole bed rail would help in your case...

oh yeah, capping the bedrails with angle iron would do a lot to help hold things together. I've been going back and forth on getting a used bed to replace mine since is smashed but it looks good enough from 20 feet away lol.

Have you had any issues with yours?

Wheeling a trailer is a life skill

That sounds pretty stressful in the moment, though. No damage, eh?

No issues to date, but I just added a cross-bed toolbox and you've got my worrying now.

Uh oh. Yeah I had a delta box with tools/camping gear/spare fluids on the bed for many years. That said I also probably abuse my truck a lot more than you do :homer: what are you gonna carry in it? That probably will dictate how hard it is on the bed

Mine will be tools, ratchet straps, a tow strap and soft shackles, and maybe an extra quart or two of oil. I only got a teeny slim/shallow (12"x9") aluminum box so I can't stuff it too much, but the whole setup is still probably 100-150lbs.

Well, another $37 down the drain. Thanks for showing that cv tool, Ive on occasion worried about getting one out on the trail as I usually don't carry a big pryer with me. But this will be easy to throw in my the tool box.

Just curious, oo you carry a spare CV with you on the trail?
