Toyota quality isn't the same. Our 2001 Camry feels like a much more solid car than my Taco.

2nd gen is more reliable because it's (on average) 6 years newer than 1st gen

I have a Gen II, owned a Gen I and started with the 2wd mini many years ago. None have ever let me down. The only road-side breakdown was on a 1988 2wd mini. The fuel pump quit. I got a ride to the stealer, got the pump and gasket, changed it roadside in 10 minutes and was under way. Toyota is just that good. :D

I've had both and currently looking to get back in a Gen 1. I've had more issues with my 06 (Throw out bearing, idler pully, wheel bearing, clutch squeak and I had a power window motor go out) then I ever had with my 98 or 89 for that matter. With less miles.

I'm think he must not have had the TSB...I have the TSB and have had close to 2000 lbs in my bed as well, and it sat perfectly level.
