I bought some carriage bolts at Home Depot and I trimmed the sides to fit the racks rail.

Thank u so much! I went ace and O'Reilly looking to see If I can find one that will fit and not spin when I tighten it. So that bolt slide right in and when you tighten it it doesn't spin? Or you did something for it not to do that? Lol

i bought 1/4in carriage bolt. It doesnt quite slide in, you have to grind the sides a bit so it can slide in the rail. I didn’t use my for an awnings. I use it to mount a pelican case.

I have a Prinsu, but in my opinion the best way to do this is to pull the weather stripping out and mark the position of the mounting holes, then use a pair of sidecutters to cut the metal ribbing inside the areas in which you’ll be making your holes. You’ll then need to use a razor utility knife to remove that short piece of ribbing from the weather stripping. Just to be extremely clear here- you only want to remove the ribbing from the areas in which you’ll be making the holes. Leave the ribbing intact on the remainder of the stripping. Then to make your holes, use a punch- a punch will give you the cleanest holes. Place the areas to punch through on a block of wood, and use the punch to drive through the rubber and into the wood.

If you drill without removing the metal ribbing, the drill will not drill through the ribbing- it will move to one side and you’ll ruin the stripping and/or end up with a hole that is not centered. Even if you remove the stripping, drilling may still butcher it.

I used a 19mm punch, which gave me a perfect seal around the spacers that fit between the roof and the rack. Do it this way and your install will look OEM perfect.

I just got mine for my Taco and getting ready to install it. Did you take any extra precautions to waterproof it? Have you had any issues with leaks?
