    I kind of don’t want to respond, because then I’ll acknowledge that 4 years has gone by with out me realizing…

    I thought this would be helpful to post for my requested modifications to the HS harness to downsize from a 2nd Gen size standard to a more compact 1st Gen:
    1. Near lamp bulb 24" -6" -> 18"
    2. Far lamp bulb 83" -6" -> 77"
    3. Trigger 20" -6" -> 14"
    4. Battery + 24" -2" -> 22"
    5. Battery ground 24" -10" -> 14" (ground terminal is 8" closer to the fender than + terminal)
    This removes 30" of unnecessary headlight wiring from the harness, which should lead to slightly higher performance and cleaner wire running. Far lamp bulb could be even more aggressively shortened by several inches, but I was being conservative.

    Ditched out of work early to make use of the first day in the 70s this year, hitting 79 degrees. Always feels great to fire up this 20yr old pickup. Really need to give it some TLC in detailing soon.

    Not my Tacoma, but I did drive the Tacoma to take the bike on a long ride today. Spotted the first one I’ve seen in the wild on the ride with @20somethingwidataco.

    That rear corner angle looks like a Toyota Impreza Crosstrek Mazda 3 collaboration

    Speaking of Tacoma’s, I’m taking your old one across Kansas to Arkansas right now to go mountain biking in Bentonville. Highly recommended for the whole family, look it up and go if you get a chance.

    The taco has been too-long neglected for detailing. Did a sub-par quick job today to head to the opening cycle racing night, including hitting the faded fenders with a back to black treatment. It deserves better still, but at least a minor improvement.

    Perfect weather today. Love loading the bikes in the 1st Gen and adventuring off to some trails.

    Hauled my kids road bike to the racetrack in the 1st Gen for Friday night racing. He connected with Seahawks Superbowl champion Luke Wilson in the infield, who was also racing on the track that night.

    I’m actually pretty against out-of-context autographs. Luke is at the track to ride and race and he is a really nice guy! I think it is great to acknowledge his accomplishments in the past but I flat out refused my kids request to bring sharpies for a Seahawks autograph. He was very disappointed. You can talk football if he’s willing, but in this environment you are both racing cyclists. Talk to him about cycling and respect where he is at right now.

    Changed the oil today. I do not miss how much of a PITA the filter is on 1st Gen vs 2nd Gen.

    OEM filter PN: 90915-YZZD1
    Oil: 5.5qt 5w-30

    IMG_1551.jpg

    This round I went with 5qt Castrol High Milage Synthetic 5-30, plus 0.5qt of Mobile 1 high milage synthetic left over from the last change. And always the OEM filter.
    IMG_1552.jpg

    Toyotas OEM filters are some of the best, and modestly priced. Autozone even stocks them if you are in a pinch. Toyota factory seals the end of their filters to ensure no contamination.
    IMG_1553.jpg

    Some a-hole (yours truly) put the filter on too tight last time making it a Royal pain to get off with filter pliers in a difficult location. Tried not to repeat that mistake this time.

    While the Toyota spec was later updated to promote 5w-20 for increased fuel economy regulations, I stick with the original 5w-30 spec the engine was designed for.
    IMG_1554.jpg

    I saved an oil sample to send off to an oil filter study again.

    Oil changed at 215,004 (4 miles behind schedule)

    I use those same oil drain pans, but I took a hole saw to the opening to get better drain flow.

    I don’t miss the “free frame rust protection” and oil change on a 1st gen provides.

    Washed, waxed and buffed today. Pretty sure the Tesla is jealous on the TLC. Had a car collector compliment the truck at a local brewery.

    If you're interested "poly watch" is a great little setup to get the scratches out of the plexiglass cluster. Use them both on my 3rd gen tacoma and 4th gen 4runner with great results. But I know it bugs me more than others.
