If you were closer, I’d be interested in trying to make something for the grom. General fabrication is ok, but I really get a kick out of making things out of sheet metal. I’ll be making a small skid plate/chin spoiler for my bike soon just because.

I kick myself if I ever need to weld sheet metal. I think I can do it, but I am still working on a 10lb roll of 0.035 solid wire. I dont think thats great for the thin stuff.

I use .023 for sheet. I learned to weld on sheet metal so when I started making structural stuff like sliders and bumpers it felt weird to crank up the heat to get good penetration

I found out why my Honda Monkey is getting slower and it’s not good,,,,,
I freaking have put in 15lbs in the last month eating like shit. That stops today. Got to get back below 175. Preferably down to 165

I guess i should just get different rolls of different thickness. I also want to finish this .035 so i can get .030.

I probably should just give it away and buy the 0.30 that I want

Still doesn’t explain it. I was surprised at the acceleration when I rode 2 up with my wife on back. Could still cruise at 50mph

I can get to 62 with just me. Also when the ecu was flashed rev limit was raised to around 11k . I can hit it in 1st and second then in third I can get to just over 10k but it just doesn’t have enough to hit the limiter.
This is on flat ground no tuck.

This was probably the most advanced fabrication project I've done and it was extremely rewarding. Taking half of a $40 flat sheet of steel and making something extremely useable out of it with mostly stuff I had laying around already, too. It's not the prettiest thing in the world (gaps aren't even, oil bolt hole isn't square, welds are absolute boogers) but I'm still proud as hell of it.

I did the welding with .030 flux core wire and it was difficult. Did two beads on some scrap before I started but definitely needed more practice, went for it anyway. Yesterday I did the tabs that hold the front on, then today I welded on a piece of 1/8"x1/2" bar stock down the center line of the skid to re-enforce it a bit and was too gung-ho and impatient and warped the metal a bit. Bounced around in small sections but didn't wait for it to cool in between nearly enough. Everything still lines up but I should have known better. Also had to zap on a small tab to keep the front from vibrating, bolting it to the same spot on the head as the cam position sensor shield. That one welded on the best out of all of it.

Paints still drying on it right now but tomorrow I plan on slapping it on and going out to get some good pictures of it. Washed and ceramic coated the Grom in preparation for the shoot haha

Welding with flux core is difficult. After I moved from a flux core to gas it was like I became a professional. Lol not really but a lot better welds for sure. 95% is machine set up.

I know right! I had to have the same large loop lever action after seeing him swing it around like that.
Kinda got me back into levers actually.
