If only there was some sort of walled structure, that had an access gate that perhaps folded down to ease the loading and unloading of said stuff that needed to be stored…

I was referring to things that you don’t want to get wet or stolen. Things like tools, recovery gear, first aid, fire extinguisher, trailer hitch, etc. The under seat and behind seat storage in my truck is completely full with those things and more lives on the floor.

…oh I know, do like stuff in the cab that I don’t want rolling around in the bed, even if I do have a topper with windoors.

I don’t want a topper. I like to put stuff in the bed that is taller than the topper roof would be and also like to be able to load things from the side of the bed.

Hey all, It's been a hawt minute since I opened my mouth on here, so buckle up honeys. I hope y'all be well so far this summer.

A few weeks ago I went by my local Toyota dealer and looked at a brand-spankin' new 2023 Toyota Tundra SR5 Double Cab 6.5 Bed w/ TRD Off Road package Ice Cap White (code 045, if I remember correctly) with Boulder Gray Interior and some BS add-ons nothing else -- $51K. New body looks a lot better in person even with the open-bass mouth. I never liked the Tundra's looks since day 1 in 1999; The 1st gen looked like a walmart F150 and the 2nd/2.5 gen was overly bulbous and goofy. In all honesty, I think Toyota (and Nissan) should've never entered full-size market. But too late on that. I do think that 51K is a bit over-priced for not having many options.

I only spent about 10 minutes looking around inside and out. It felt to be pretty good quality in that short time. DC is very small for passengers, but for tools would work very well. Cloth seats felt well-stitched and some-what tough. door trim, window locks, HVAC switchgear felt good too. dash and centre console was fine as well. Plastic? Yep. Just like every other car since the 1980s. Front wind shield is noticeability shorter, but forward visibility looked ok. The longer hood wasn't as horrible as some in the automotive media have made out to be, the simpler lines on the hood and the downward slope toward the grill make the line of sight ok in my opinion.
I did not drive the truck. Frame looked pretty meaty to me, this truck had a door sticker payload of 1500#. 22.5 gallon tank. I have never been in a Toyota Tundra before now. So I have no comparison to the older gens.

I will make comparisons to what I do know:

My late papaw had a GMT900 2007 Silverado 1500 (Z71 Extended Cab 6.5 Box) for about 8 years. Interior space felt the same compared to the 23 Tundra.

Before he passed he bought a 21 Tacoma SR DC 3.5 4WD, The Tundra felt bigger and not any bigger at the same time.

I have some family that bought an 2023 Suburban. Interior felt no better-no worse than the Tundra. I hope they like it, I personally was not impressed. Not that quite, nor does it ride well in my opinion. To be as big as it is, interior space isn't as much as I was expecting, yeah it's long, but storage height isn't great. Mom and Dad had a 1995 Grand Caravan we'd fit a lot of stuff in that thing over the years. 5.3 V8 sounded good, 10 speed transmission was superbly smooth. no gear hunting either, I live in East KY.

Another family member has a 2021 (or 2022) Silverado 2500 HD, he let take a look at it. He stands at 6' 6".
I sat down in the drivers seat and notice how the cab is similar to the old Silverado and new Tundra I'm only 5' 10" mind you. The front end is way too big. bed height, same. I do not envy him. However, I'm sure it earns its keep.

I'm not a chevy guy, but the interior quality of the chevys and toyotas are both decent IMO. I think GM has gotten a lot underserved shit for interior quality. Some Toyotas aren't perfect there either. I'm sure some GM stuff is bad, but not to level I have seen some on the internet. fair is fair.

Another cousin Has a 2009-2012 RAM 1500 Crew Cab. again, no bigger the other full-sizers. Brought back many memories from the Grand Caravan. Gotta love Chrysler quality.

    I was raised in a 1991 Pickup XtraCab, 2 (1996 & 1998) Tacoma XtraCabs, and a 1991 4Runner. and a bunch of other toyotas.

The 2nd/3rd gen tacomas, were bigger than gen 1 on the out side, but it felt smaller on the inside. I guess do to safety factors 2005-2023 are sugger fit than 1996-2004.

Maybe I need more time on the road, but full-sizers don't seem that much more spacious that the mid-sizers/compact to me. Of course, if you need 8K towing, the choice is easy.

I'm glad to experience these trucks though, makes me realize a Tacoma XtraCab is all the truck I'll ever need. It does concern me that new frame for the 4th gen wider that the 2nd/3rd. I wasn't happy with how wide then 2021 is. Bigger ain't always better.

Also, the rear bumper design on the tundra is the single most ridiculous marketing scheme ever put on a product. $300 for a bed step? Good God Man. just make the bumper right in the first place. Tacoma ain't no shining star there either.

The IsoDynamic Seats are literally more functional than ass-end of a brand-new Toyota Truck.

In case y'all didn't know, according to Sheldon on the Savagegeese video, ALL 2.4 Turbos have the same internals. The base engine loses an oil cooler, gets detuned, and has less exhaust muffling.

Also, I know some of us, don't like the XtraCab over the AccessCab, I don't mind it myself. One thing that make me wonder is if the built-in lockage storage trim pieces can be removed to have open space back there.

I've been meaning to write this for a month, but been busy. I'm sorry if something dosen't make sense---my brain is faster than my fingers. I've tried to proof read it many times.

I like both, why I have a trailer. Some stuff is easier to load on the trailer than a truck bed.

I was just parked next to an Etorque Ram. I didn’t even know that Ram had a mild hybrid option. Who had it first the Ram or Tundra?

They took one of their Flagship Signature models, waved the magic-wand, and "poof": it is gone. A dam shame IMHO. Don't tell me it was the rattling doors because the ones in my son's 2005 200,00K miles AC LB don't rattle. Nothing else in it does either: not even the windows or mystery-mess rattle behind the glovebox. 2024 "Extra/Extended/Pretend Cab"??? --> hah... take away something to save money and then charge more money for it and make it harder to use, load or climb into. Why even bother?

RIP Toyota Tacoma Access Cab (WITH REAL [SUICIDE] DOORS)

Interestingly Chevy put coil springs and trailing arm on the rear suspension beginning with the 1960 C10 (my ‘62 C10 had them), while the GMC version had leaf springs. My ‘62 also had torsion bar front suspension. Shocks were really easy to replace on that truck.

Well, forcing and bribing with anti-free market practices like subsidies. There is no reversing the inevitable reset of the global economy at this point so I'll gladly take a tax break on a 24 off-road I-max. We're at a point of no return as designed by the money changers.
