has anyone attempted to eliminate the center support bearing and joint assembly on an ext cab with a simple single driveshaft? It couldnt be any longer than what was in my full size chevy, angle would be similar. I decided to hang on to this thing another few years....

Depending on truck's configuration, it is not ideal to run a 1 piece shaft over 60 inches. And most shop will not built anything over that length due to vibration issue. A lot of people seemed to think the CSB is used to keep the shaft up at a higher angle based on designed and placement but the real function is to absorbed vibration.

You can run a custom poly CSB to prolong the life. Met a dude on the trail that convert his and he's been running it for years with no issue.

Call Tom Woods Drive Shaft- they used to sell a single piece shaft for these trucks.

I didnt measure it but looked closely at it while dumping a case of fluid film under it, it appears the angle at the rear end will decrease, theres a reputable driveshaft shop in town, I will speak with them about it. Thanks

Years ago it was common for the lifts to to damage the long drive shafts with a frame lift so think off road over rocks.

What's the goal? Get a good OEM CSB and run that for another 50-100k miles. FWIW I run the 2 piece on my rock crawler that I drive to and from the trail with the pinion offset 3" to the pax side on my fj80 axle with no real issues with the factory type driveshaft provided I use an OEM CSB in it. If I put something cheap in there (timken, spicer, parts store) it eats the CSB in less than 5k miles.

Yep. I replaced mine like 6 years ago with a Toyota CSB and had no issue. I finally went to a 1 piece after extending the WB. I trail hard with 35s and crawlbox and see lots of mileage.

thats my problem, Im tired of changing the CSB, The Candone joint feels great, maybe its imbalanced but I cant be without it. No, you meatheads, I aint driving it in 4wd, dont go there. The parts companies are awfully proud of a new shaft... I was thinking outloud for a better alternative

I have went down this road before. Buy a used OEM drive shaft off of here and have it balance and rebuilt. It’s cheaper than a new OEM and you will be happy with your choice.

The single piece drive shaft on our trucks is an absolute headache. I spent weeks trying to get the one I had built not to have vibrations at various speeds.

I may even have a thread on it but I can’t remember.

I searched, shimmed, tweaked, and finally went back to a two piece. I kept the driveshaft just as a reminder to leave well enough alone.

    That’s my $0.02

Did that one piece use a double cardan?

One in the front and then the slip yoke in the rear if I remember correctly.
