Too bad you didn't have the time to schedule it, where I could come and help. Seriously.

I tend to do things spur of the moment, so no worries there. Managed to leave the hood, clutch and radiator in this time while pulling things out. The less to deal with the better

Just throwing my old motor back in there for the time being. I am not sure what the long term plan is with the newer motor, but I doubt it’s going back in the truck.

It would be good to fix the issue but parts are a couple weeks out, and I need this thing running again.

Everything swapped over and motor back in. Need to button up all the wiring harness, plumbing, transmission, and accessory drive tomorrow

That was quick. Did you have to drop the trans? It’s a tight fit with the radiator in there. Reminds me of the kids game operation lol

Yes sir, trans got dropped. I thought about trying to pull them together but I can get that out in 30 minutes or so, so I just removed it. Not looking forward to the install though that thing always puts up a fight

A little late ti ask, but do you have some sort of transmission jack?

On the last few swaps that I have done, I was able to just drop the drive shaft, then slide the transmission back some, while keeping it on the jack.

I’m curious about this too for my upcoming clutch swap. Where is the balance point on the trans to position the jack?

Yes I have a harbor freight trans jack and thats similar to what I do. I leave the driveshaft connected at the rear diff and just remove the carrier bearing bolts and slide it over. Since mine is just 2wd it’s not too bad
Yours is 4wd right? I bet yours will be somewhere around where the transmission crossmember is. That’s how it is on my 6spd 4wd. I put the trans jack in front of the trans crossmember, then unbolt it and slide the jack back some

Yea mine is a 4wd. Was thinking about picking up a trans jack from HF during this sale. Which one did you get? Wondering if I can get away with the basic scissor lift unit or go for one of the beefier ones.

Yes, they looked good before and I pulled the valve cover and found at least a couple of collapsed lifters on the intake cam.

I personally think there is a bearing issue or something else responsible for the metal in the filter and lower oil pan, and that’s what ruined the lifters. The cams didn’t look bad, maybe a little bit of wear starting from the excessive lash, but it’s not like they were wiped out or anything. I might throw it on the stand though and take a closer look once the truck is wrapped up

Here is the one I have it has worked great for me and I have used it twice on the 4wd 6spd as well, so it can handle the weight of a 4wd trans and t-case, no problem. Definitely makes things way easier.

Found this in the vvti filter this morning so I put the engine on the stand and dug a little deeper. Didn’t take long to find wear on the #2 main bearing after tearing it down. Unfortunately I think this is the end of the road for me and the 2TR. After my original engine dies, I will be going another route.

    Robert,
Now I must have to admit I’m no expert by any means! But that doesn’t look like a wear issue, looks like something foreign inside the engine. :notsure:

It's less Tacoma and more mod
That a really abnormal scar on that bearing, doesn't look like enough wear on it to be making that noise either... usually mains don't make the tapping/knocking noise, check rod bearings.
