Very nice area to off road. Some really intense trails out there. I was in the silverton/Durango area in october. Beautiful state.

I love your truck, very similar to my setup. Do you have a build thread?

Went exploring near Mt. Rainier and found the greatest spot I’ve ever camped at. Still in awe.

Getting stuck behind a tractor bring down logging equipment made for a long 15 mile drive to the main road.

Very nice, thanks for the additional pic. I always enjoy seeing builds that are clearly done for function instead of just adding all kinds of mods for cool points (although I have nothing against those people).

Here’s mine from a recent trip to keep with the theme of the thread:

That pic was taken somewhere off the grid in Montana.

Everything I’ve done is functional and not too crazy but in good taste. Here’s the inside.IMG_0307.jpg

That is awesome. You should really consider doing a build thread, I’m sure a lot of people would be interested.

Man alive that’s one of those priceless spots! Rainier is always eager to pose for pictures. I may be biased but I think it’s the most beautiful mountain out there!

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
Found another great small and remote fishing lake. Belly boat on this trip as it is too damn hot lately to fish from my cartop boat. Will definitely bring my boat here when it cools down. This area brutal for horseflies though. It is 5mph top speed the last 4 miles in, and can’t open the windows as they swarm the truck while I’m driving.

The Old Cascade Trail follows the Dewdney wagon road that connected Hope BC with Fort Steele BC (near Cranbrook). One of the few remaining stretches is between Christina Lake and Rossland. I've driven it three times in the past 30 years. First time I was working in the area and heard you could drive through. Took the company 60 series Land Cruiser dead reckoning without a map through part FSR but mostly a rough and partially overgrown trail. About 15 years later I drove through much the same, no map, dead reckoning, ended up on a fresh cut boulder and rock strewn section under a powerline for a few kilometres.

Yesterday, all but a couple of kilometres in the middle appeared on the stock sat nav in the truck. LOL, not really off roading. Good FSR all the way but the route could be called "wash board and switch backs are us". Impressed the way the ome886/dakarHD/airbag suspension handled the washboard keeping the truck planted on the road.

Looking south down the Kettle River into Washington St.

A top the first ridge we climbed over and the start of a singletrack trail back to where we came.

Looking back the way we came. Comms towers would be on the furthest ridge.

Sounds rough with all the Flies my gosh. How did you keep them away after you got out of the truck? Lately I've been using this all natural insect repellent works pretty good for mosquitoes and flies when I'm cutting grass.

I am used to it, counting 60 years of this and too many to count trips with my family in BC.

yup, DEET but most spots lately I need to redo the spray 3-4 times per day. So spraying all of my clothing, hat, and all exposed parts.

The DEET works better for mosquitoes. The horseflies will still buzz you non stop, but at least they don’t bite with the DEET.

That said, Ihad one trip where I literally bathed in DEET (dripping off) and still got about 50 mosquito bites in 5 minutes. A swarm of over 500 of them just attacking me, up my nose, in my ears. Terminator mosquitoes I guess.

That was bushwhacking through dense forest to get to a good fishing pool on the Skagit river. It was worth it, the fishing was phenomenal and can’t beat the scenery.

Its all good, if I am not soaked in sweat and dirt and deet by days end, I must have done something wrong.

Tip, make sure you dump before leaving the house. Not fun spraying deet on your ass in the bush.

For some reason my wife no longer goes on these trips.

    Too funny, not really.

Reminds me where I lived in Tennessee mosquitoes were so bad when I cut the grass they were the same way vicious really vicious and those were strong mosquitoes they had muscles on them never seen anything like them I think they had stripes on them too.

Quick question...I have a 22 TRD Sport. I like to take my family off the grid for camping mostly and do moderate off-roading. How much of a difference is there between the OEM suspension in the Sport vs say OEM Off Road suspension or Bilstein? Is it something I absolutely MUST upgrade, or is it just a comfort thing? Any insight is appreciated.
