I'm looking into purchasing a tacoma and have a few options I'm looking at right now. A couple of them are late second gen (2012-2014) with like 150k km and one 2017 with 226k km on it. I was just wondering how people feel about age vs mileage. As in, newer with more is better/worse than an older one with less? Or if it's all about how many km it has in the end. Any advice helps thanks:)

I have a 2021. If I’m on the highway I always get over 20 MPG with my somewhat modded truck, usually in the 22mpg area.

City is 18ish on average. Not sure if that helps.

I guess I should have clarified I meant about looking at the amount of kilometers when purchasing and what is a better purchasing choice but, yeah that does actually help cause 20mpg is like 12.5l/100km as opposed to the almost 14l/100km of the older gen

The truck history is probably more important. 200k one owner, garage kept with meticulous maintenance is probably a better truck than a 50k truck given to a rich kid that drives it like he stole it. Years vs milage, things do get old sitting so sometimes I feel old low milage trucks bring more $$$ than they should but in the end how it was cared for is most important to me.

Ya that makes sense, I sometimes completely forget to consider the use scenario even though it makes a big difference.

I just got a 2013 with 110K miles on it. It was 1 owner with a ton of service records, and had obviously been garage kept (easy to tell in New Mexico). The bed wasn’t torn up and it had a matching color cap. The tires were Michelins, which is a sure sign the owner was a older guy. Otherwise bone stock. To a certain point condition trumps mileage in my opinion.

If both vehicles are in the same condition I would go with the older lower mileage one, you should take both vehicles to a shop for a inspection, smaller garages are better for this so you can see the vehicle and talk to the mechanic.
That said they are both under 150000 miles so they would both be accepted to me knowing i would need to replace some suspension parts at the least.

    My 05 4.0 auto 4x4 gets 12-14mpg with 2 bad cats.

before they went bad, it got 22-23mpg
