This maybe of some help :) straight from the NHTSA website. It applies to 2010 models though, i believe the 2011s are now made in San Antonio, TX.

I wouldn't know if they're all made in SA but I know that tacomas are ALL OVER the place there. Down in the Rio Grande Valley there's mostly the big 3 being driven.

Tacomas were manufactured/assembled in NUMMI from 1995 - 2009 (when the plant closed). Then Toyota moved the Tacoma assembly to Texas. While most are made in the US, Toyota also assembles the Tacoma in Baja Mexico (since 2002...not very many in comparison to the US though) and makes the beds there.

As far as that link above to the 2010 pdf doc, it's not real accurate. It shows the Highlander only being made outside the US, yet some of them are manufactured in Indiana.

My friend's dad worked at NUMMI and said that even though they had up to date equipment, in comparison to Baja's factory, but the trucks coming out of Baja had better quality control numbers than Fremont.

My truck was made in Fremont haha. 1 town over from where I live

My Silverado was made in Ft. Wayne, Indiana and the Colorado/Canyon are built in Shreveport, Louisiana. I know GM also builds a large number of trucks in Mexico and Canada. An irony about the Colorado/Canyon is that, like the Tacoma, they are Japanese trucks (Isuzu D-Max) built in America.

Come on guys, do your research. You don't care enough about the vehicle you drive to know where it comes from?

The majority of Tacomas are made in the San Antonio plant since the 2011 Model Year debuted. The only Tacomas produced in the Tijuana plant are V6 Double Cab models. The Tijuana plant produces 50,000 vehicles a year. Toyota sells more than 140,XXX Tacomas a year.

The argument for what makes an "american vehicle" is not necessarily where final assembly occurs. The calculations that automotive publications are showing you is what percentage of the vehicles MATERIALS come from our country (The USA). The Tacoma and Tundra consist of over 60% American-Made components. Car and Driver made 60% the cut off for a vehicle to be considered an "American-Made" product.

The Chevy Silverado and Colorado and the Ford F-150 and Ranger both scored under 50% each. Meaning a lot of the stuff in your vehicle that was produced under an american name is made of a majority of parts that were made in a foreign country.

So yes, the Tacoma and Tundra are still produced under a foreign company's name and a certain amount of proceeds go back to Japan. However, Toyota employs hundreds of thousands of american workers in their final assembly plants as well as their sub-contractors that produce all of the thousands of parts that make up the final product. Don't forget about the americans that sold you the vehicle at your local dealership and the americans that perform the maintenance on the vehicle.

Toyota is a threat to the outdated "American Car" company's methods. It's no wonder issues such as the unintended acceleration cases were so sensationalized. They must bring down the company that is still supporting our economy while they are attempting to be the "American" brand while supporting foreign countries because they can't afford to pay their unionized workers that get $100K+ a year to install the driver side door on a Ford Taurus (wsj.com, feel free to search).

    Rant complete.
