My photo gallery reminder popped up to remind me that July 5 3 years ago I first took my truck to Ardbeg. I bought it June 20 of that year. Stock tires and stock grille!

 

Anyone know if a 3rd gen would still drive on the battery if the belt is thrown? Idler is getting real shady (presumably seized and made a hard start today), sounds like a bag of mice and is very wobbly. Just need another 30-60k out of it before the new parts come.

 

I wouldn’t chance it. Knowin’ my luck the belt would get thrown into every rotating assembly before destroying same.

I think you'll be able to drive as far as a non-rotating water pump will take you in this weather.

Did you order new oil cooler gaskets for the idler replacement job?

 

Forgot about the water pump being driven off the belt. It spun smooth and fine when I had the belt off inspecting. Just the top idler is real bad and the lower just a little rough.

 

^What about idler pulley on the tensioner?

(note the rather comical $1400 retail price for the oil cooler assy)

 

Tensioner idler seems quiet (listening through stick) and feels tight and smooth. The bearings on the factory idlers looks to just be shields and not seals. I think this is what lead to their quick death.

Dont know why were talking about the oil cooler?

 

^The lower idler bolt doesn't have room to come out unless you unbolt the oil cooler and shift it out of the way.
