When you set the tire radius and/or gear ratio in vf tuner, is this strictly for shifting or does it also change the speedometer calibration? If not, can vf tuner recalibrate the speedometer?

Shifting only. Speedometer is driven by wheel sensors and fed into the ABS computer, which VF doesn’t access. Only way to correct speedometer is with Hypertech or Rough Country recalibration units.

This is what a lot of us have used for the speedo recalibration: https://www.amazon.com/Rough-Country-Speedometer-Calibrator-90043/dp/B07KLYVF1Y

Let me know if you go with it and need any help setting it up. I've done a few.

Those maps also affect the distance to empty value.

are you saying distance to empty is based on vf tune or hypertech etc.?

Based on values that are editable within vF Tuner. Those "constants" are used in the calculation for determining distance to empty.

But if you were to do the Hypertech, you would not want to also compensate with vfTuner right?

They do not communicate with each other. Just think of them as independent systems in that you want then both to be accurate as possible (i.e the ECU to know the correct wheel spin AND the correct display on the speedo) then you can get a Hypertech AND a proper ECU/TCU tune.

Speedometer info comes from the skid control ECU, and the Hypertech compensates for that. The tune is stored on the ECU and the distance to empty takes multiple inputs from there, but it also takes the speed signal from the skid control ECU. So, technically, @wahoobie is correct; it will be more accurate if you have both (if necessary of course).

I wish we had a way to provide it in the tune or with a utility process.
