Can I have some opinions about buying a used welder online? I’m new to welding but want to pick up a solid machine to grow into. Looking at a millermatic 220, esab rebel 205ic. I wouldn’t be able to really test them out since I’ve only Mig welder a few times. Kinda sketched spending 3k blindly.

If you at this time are unable to weld How do you even know what type of machine you will want??

How did you decide on these models?

Always check the age of the Machine via the serial number.

I would never buy a used machine online without being able to put it through a full test testing out put and control. If there is a problem your already out shipping costs.

No local machines to be bought?

Then the other assorted needed consumables shielding Gas, wire , and your personal protection gear.

Why not one of the Primeweld Machines New?? Warranty and Much cheaper for more machine.

@Kwikvette is there top unpaid sales person:thumbsup:

Dont spend 3 grand ... especially used ... until you know what you are doing.

Buy a primeweld (i have no experience with their mig machines, but do have experience with their TIG machines and customer service) to get the basics and then see if its worth it to you to buy a NEW top tier machines. The prime weld will do 90% of what the top tier will do for a fraction of the cost ... its the best way to dive into this and see if its going to be a career for you.

They are local but my im without tig is xoerience. I need ac tig in the near future along with keeping mig and I only have space for one machine. Prime weld does not have that. Only other option would be everlast lighting mts 225. I’m just curious if these units are reliable enough to take a shot.

3m cubitron, klingspore, or pearl abrasives, in that order, have been our favorites.

Just what do you plan on needing AC tig for?

Ac Tig sucks up output like a dry sponge.

Nothing wrong with welding machines living in the house when not in use.

There usually only one big reason why people want a AC tig welder specifically…

Like a standalone tig is more powerful than a multi unit? I just need it for aluminum piping for now. I relocated to the city and my quarters are tight tight tight.

I have the Primeweld 225X Tig machine, with AC/DC capability, but no MIG. Awesome welder. $870. Then for another $600, you can get a 180amp Mig welder.

Your still at half your budget. Personally, I'd recommend you buy the MIG, weld a while and research AC TIG machines and decide excatly what you need.

I am also hoping these name brand welders hold their value like these trucks. If I buy it at a fair price I should be able to get most of my money back if I need to sell which is a possibility.

In the future when I move back to my house I’ll have multiple machines. For now my space is limited to one machine.

The multiprocess machines are a comprise until one gets to the high end machines .

Then your in the $10,000.00 area

Most people run 2 separate machines at least

You have our views good luck!

I don't need a plasma cutter but see the advantages to them. This one is in the discussion box below. At $219.99 it's in my budget. There is also it's little sister for $169.99 that also fits my budget and leaves me room for expendable purchases. The machine will be used a half dozen times a year so not looking for a top of the line, I just don't want to waste my money on junk...if these are junk.

For a few times a year just what do you need cut that can not be cut with a disc or a saw??

Why waste the money for something you don`t really need.

I never heard of this brand .

Spend a little more go with Primewelds plasma machine .

There have been projects in the shop where a plasma would be the tool to use. Cut off wheel is the primary tool right now.
