a paint code is essentially just a color. It has nothing to do with how its applied or if its single stage/ with or without clear.

To be honest i dont think its exclusive to only Toyota white paint. Most manufacturers that have white painted cars peel if theyre not cared for. I have a white Tacoma that i had for almost 7 years now and the paints in perfect condition.

White is the only one I've heard consistent issues with and not limited to Tacoma. The black on my 2017 seems to be holding up well. I also live in the north where the sun isn't as intense though. But, even in traveling to where the sun is more intense, it seems that the issues aren't on every vehicle which leads me to believe it is mostly about the way you take care of it. I don't believe the majority of people are babying their paint, but they're not doing absolutely nothing either.

The black on my 2017 OR is excellent, but the white on daughter's 2021 Wrangler is garbage. Bubbling and chipping away in many areas.

yeah, I got a 2021 in cement and the paint sucks. it came with defects which toyota fixed... somewhat. the paint is just so thin and soft that it takes real skill to cut and polish scratches out

Barcelona Red 17 Tacoma here with 31000 miles, kept super clean, garage parked and parked during the winter. I have early clear coat issues and a dealership saying Toyota wont do squat because it is out of warranty. Ill keep the Tacoma but after owning nothing but Toyootas since 1989 we are enjoying our new Mazda CX5.

To be fair: the paint on my truck (040 Super White) is fine almost 10 years in. It's shiny, no dull spots or yellowing and no peeling. It seems to be a random roll of the dice whether or not you get the peeling failure. They seem to fail fairly early or not at all. Frequent washing and waxing doesn't seem to prevent the peeling failure.

Agreed. Waxing does absolutely nothing to preserve the paint any further. I think the solution for people with paint issues or prevention of early failure is just to wrap the hot spot areas (the roof, the hood) and call it a day for a while. It's cheaper than painting and wont have to be thought about for quite a while after.

Do you have a copy of or know the TSB number for this issue?

I've had MGM, SW, Cement, Lunar Rock, the early black (2016) they all suck, but most paint is super thin anyways across all brands, LR being the least sucky. I have ceramic coated/and or PPF'd all of them (except the SW, just did a good sealant) which helps.

Issues I've seen in my time here, clearcoat failures early on Blazing Blue and Inferno, peeling on SW but that's across the brand.
