Before the OP goes on a wild-goose chase, the 1st gen 3.4l v6 does not have an EGR valve.

I don't think 7 miles is going to get the oil and engine temps up to optimal range to pass smog. I'd recommend a good 15-20 mile drive in stop and go and highway speeds. Go wide open throttle a couple of times and head straight to the smog station. Leave the truck running so that it doesn't have a chance to cool down.

However, before all of this, run a can of seafoam through the brake booster. Suck is all in and drive it for 4-6 miles. You'll see the truck puffing out white smoke, but don't be alarm. Post back your smog results.

My sons 1995.5 3.4 absolutely has a EGR valve. It is also OBDII but stupid CA doesnt believe it... The smog guys do, because its right there, but the CA database wont let his be tested as OBDII. Like someone said, you have to dyno anything older than a 2000. His is due soon and we are scared.

There is a chance I am mistaken, but I don't think any 5vz-fes have EGR valves. They have a PCV, and a vent from the drivers side valve cover, but not a EGR valve like the 2.4 and 2.7.

I am afraid you are very mistaken and putting out false information. Earlier one had it later ones do not. I know and have experience with both. First hand, hands on. It would be great to not put out ideas, opinions and maybes as fact. Here are pictures taken right now. IMG_3918.jpgIMG_3920.jpgIMG_3919.jpg

Will do, bought seafoam and sucked it in a vac line, going to add some to the gas tank when it’s closer to empty. Also ordered a new Pcv, gasket, hose, plugs, wires, boots, and upstream o2 sensor.

I live over an hour and a half from the nearest star smog place, plenty of time to get the cat nice and hot. Results to follow tuneup and test.

Posting an update here for anyone else who may encounter this. I passed smog today, my results are posted below.
    To prep for the test:
    New upstream denso o2 sensor
    Ngk double electrode plugs
    Ngk plug wires
    Cleaned MAF
    Replaced PCV, gasket, and hose
Ran a can of sea foam through a vacuum hose before the plenum
Ran a can of sea foam through gas tank
Drove the truck like a teenager for an hour before the test (WOT pulls on the highway)
Kept it idling and reving it for 30sec increments at 2k rpm while waiting for the test
    Filled my tank with premium
    Oil and filter change
Aired up rear tires to 43psi
