The Tacoma rear bumper/bedside treatment is just odd…the more I look at the Toyota, the more I like the GMs and Ford. Not sure the Toyota nameplate will keep me as a loyal customer, especially with an unproven drivetrain. Used to be “well it is a Toyota!, is why I buy them” Now not so sure…

While they have similar design elements, the GM twins did it better.

I don’t love the 4th gen’s looks. I think the higher trims we saw with highly marketed professional photos and videos looked okay, but that ‘real world’ shot of the SR5 upthread looks pretty rough to me. I prefer the lower trims so I’ve been anxious to see how it might look, and I am really happy to have my 3rd gen now. Maybe some bias but the 3rd gen looks way better I think, especially in the lower trims. I did think the Xtra Cab Pre-runnner they showed off looked pretty good honestly, but without the doors that would be a no-go for me from the start.

I would not really have been in the market for this gen anytime soon anyway, but not getting any FOMO yet from what I’ve seen. My wallet thanks you Toyota (for once).

Color balance way out of whack. I assume this is not yours (photo and truck)? I don't do instagram.

Nice- the bed sides and front quarters/doors come pre-dented. I thought I saw this on the Trailhunter in the initial reveal, but couldn’t quite tell with the color and carefully curated pics. The black on this SR5 100% confirms the sheetmetal weirdness:

It really shows in the 3/4 shot:

    They are.

These days believe reliability it is crap shoot, my “keep it forever plan” is no more, now it is buy the extended warranty and trade in before it is up. My 3rd Gen is gone when it reaches 120K.

My 30 year love affair with Toyota seems to be over, gaaaawd damn the 4th Gen is fucking ugly. Plus they killed my favorite cab configuration, the AC.

The interior is better on the GMs too.

Whomever OK'd these pics for the initial public release messed up: The tires on this particular truck are way too small for the wheel-well openings, the lift, or whatever else is going on in these photos. If they're all going to look like this, it's just not a good look... Maybe for a 1970's Ford with the 14" wheels but certainly not this example.

The "dent" styling is way overdone and just ridiculous. Once you notice it or it has been pointed out, your eyes go right to it.

Wow, the Gen 4 SR5 somehow made the new Frontier look good. That thing is fugly. Can’t get past the creases and weird rear bumper. Is that really the stock tire size?

The Tundra looks like this with their stock tire size, too. The best looking new Tundras are lifted, have large tires, and are all black or dark blue. The rest look anemic.

I still can't get over the fact they put a 14" screen in a tiny Tacoma lol. The 14" screen looks huge in the Tundra too

They need to show us the SR5 TRDOR since that's the one most people will be buying. And the color matching on that SR5 looks way better than all the chrome on the Limited and the giant fender flares on the TRD Pro.

Yes, anything less than 35s on the Tundra looks odd. Toyota got the fenders and flares right on the Tundy, and blew it on the Tacoma.

With the horseshoe mustache grill surround color coded, the grill doesn’t bother me as much.

The Taco interior looks very Transformerish too, the 14” display doesn’t bother me as much in the Tundra, still a lot going on, but it kinda works. What Toyota did get right was the GX 550 dash…the Tacoma and Tundra should have gone that way. Do like simpler and cleaner, but that is just me.

Both interiors looks pretty good to me. I’d be happy with either. As for the exterior, I think the Ranger is the best lookin of the three. But the GM is sharp. They just look more cohesive. The 4G and new tundra have this weird transformer randomness to them. Like each part wasn’t made specifically for that vehicle.

The Tacoma looks thrown together by designers who played with Transformers as kids. It is a bit much for me. Us Toyota fanboys keep on telling ourselves despite it flaws, it is gonna be reliable, right? …..right??? :notsure:

Do like the Ranger too, dunno they all killed my favorite cab configuration. Think I am out of the mid-size truck market for the next truck. Which I kinda knew anyways, almost bought a half ton over my 3rd Gen.

It does. However for that much money, you shouldn’t have to try and force yourself to like it. Think the Ford’s are the best looking, plus still can get a V8, dash is easier to look at and they do the cab rear seat storage is better. Get to pick your gear ratios, rear locker option on all trims, and payload numbers too.
