My concern would be that if there's little enough adhesion to peel off of the paint around the emblems, that there's little enough adhesion to peel it off the emblems fairly easily. I'll be interested to see how this does long term.

I've been planning on doing this and wondered about doing my grill too. Thanks for the inspiration! This is now #1 on my list soon as Spring Break-Up gets to Alaska.

    Looks Awesome!

Looks good! As to the concerns about durability if nothing else consider it a medium term taste test. It's easy to black out a bunch of stuff then you can live with it for a couple months and if you don't like it, well it's reversible, just peel it off. If you do like it and the plasti-dip isn't holding up then at least when you pull off the parts and paint them properly you know you'll like the result.

If anyone is going to do the emblems or anything on the vehicle stay away from any kind of knife. What you definitely don't want is to cut the paint and start the panel rusting right in beside the emblem. A bamboo skewer like the op used would be a good choice. They make some for girl's fingernails with an end like a slot screwdriver, those would be really good.

No real world adhesion. I would not use it for that.

    Does Plasti-Dip count as a mod ?
No. I washed it before I started the project. I did dust off and wipe down the newly covered pieces (we still have lots of tree pollen) with no issues.

No prep other than cleaning (I used alcohol wipes)

Slightly tacky feeling and a little rough texture when dried.

I use a car wash with rotating brushes. Hmmm, might have to give this a shot.

I just like it because it's not permanent. I did my emblem on the grille, partly as a trial in case I want to do more later. I dont know how well it will hold up over time though. But I like it because I was wanting to black out the front emblem from day one, but was afraid to sand it to paint and then it not look good. With the Plasti Dip I can peen it off any time I want and still have the original look w/o damage. Thinking about blacking out all the emblems, I think it would look good on the Silver.
