2012. It is a V model, which has a 1.8. I think the non V's has a 1.5?? It has some different parts, as I found out after I got regular Prius brake pads and they were all too small. I watch the fluids carefully and it does not lose any coolant and uses an insignificant amount of oil between changes. We did get both cooling circuits and the brake fluid flushed at 100k. I change the trans fluid every 30k.

My is 2012 PriusV. Gasket coating defect causes the coolant sipping into the cylinder. I believe it affected 1.8 engines between 2010-2014. Mine leaked on cylinder 1. Pay attention to morning start ups.

Took the bed mat from 2nd Gen to 3rd Gen
I am impressed with this level of dramatization.

The the Mexican plant "concerns" are very thinly-veiled xenophobia. Tacomas have been manufactured in Mexico since like 2004. Zero reason to bring it up specifically for 3rd gens other than for dog whistling.

TW has more drama than a teenage girls soccer team from a handful of members with an irrational anger and hatred towards the 3rd gen Tacoma.

I always laugh when people cite the "Lazy Mexican on a Friday afternoon" as an argument against the MX assembly plants and the supposed lack of QC. Especially when American workers invented and celebrate f*cking off at work on a Friday afternoon. Toyota ships thousands of these trucks a year and for good reason - quality and reliability. And we all bought(leased) one, so really this argument against MX manufactured goods as a deterrent to owning a Tacoma is a mute point. I don't see anyone here dumping their Taco for a new Ranger or Colorado or whatever midsize truck Dodge offers.

No puffs of anything on startup so far and I've never had to add coolant to it, I'll keep an eye on it

You'll know. It'll rattle on the start up.
Agree, I have no complaints except the gasket issue. We drove to Utah(Moab, Bryce canyon), Yellowstone and everywhere.
between Whistler,BC and San Diego, CA
It stll eats hills like a champ and able to travel effortlessly at 100 mph.
We got 22 hybrid rav4. The engine/hybrid combo on this one is powerful and responsive.
New Tacoma with turbo I4 Hybrid will outperform V6 in every department.

I was amazed with my brothers hybrid rave4 after taking a ride in it. That sucker goes while getting amazing fuel economy.

BMW replaced their I6 in the 3series with a turbo 4 banger... Didn't go too well.

The I6 motor was bulletproof, 200k+ miles.
Those T4 bangers tended to blow up at 70k

    3.5 6 speed is a downgrade compared to the 4.0 5speed.

    "Didn't go too well".

I disagree. Them're making money from people coming in for dealer repairs.

    BMW making that money.

I don't know, it really feels like they worked the gear hunting out post 2019.
My 2020 DCLB doesn't really hunt at all, even pulling our off road trailer.

I always thought I had a bomb proof V6 with the Pentastar in my JKRU. I was wrong. Very wrong.
The V6 in my Taco seems like a stable rock comparatively.

Unfortunately they have to meet government mandates. So it is, what it is.

No one has ever said that. Only the folks who pose this exact strawman and argue against it. Almost as they volunteer for some outside organization.

Perhaps it did work out for them?
Ain't no one paying the dealer for repairs when there is 70K on the clock.. so IDK

I love the I6 - put 250K on my first one and have 100K on my second one - it is a great engine; the T4 sucks

In a Welding shop that's somewhat true. In the other shops, especially the assembly shops, it's not true. Due to the difficulty in hiring and retaining high skilled maintenance staff and the fact that many of the steps are just too difficult for current tech machines, I estimate 90% of the parts in an assembly shop are hand installed.

You can tour TMMTX, TMMK, TMMI and see the weld and assembly shops. I've been to all three plants.

Pretty much this, I remember being on this forum with the 3rd gen first came out. It was post after post about people complaining about the engine and transmission combo. Now that the 4th gen is coming out apparently the 3rd gen is the one to have now. Now all of a sudden its the holy grail engine and transmission combo lol.
