Let me re-phrase my statement before I get the hate .

The no-fly zone is a UN resoulution , I agree with Marc that the US is supplying the greatest amount of hardware etc to support that resolution .

There will not be a ground war or invasion , airstrikes and enforce a no fly zone .

USA, England,Canada and the Aussies will probably be doing the dirty work on this "U.N" action.

No , I agree with the OP , the bulk of the heavy lifting will be American , my point was that it is a UN sponsored action , and not a US action as some had suggested .

Our national news said we are sending a flight of 6 F-18's to help with the no-fly zone .

Yes a UN Resolution... who do you think will be enforcing this no-fly zone... it won't be you Canadians with your non-existent air force and inability to force project... it won't be Britain or France and Germany has already refused to participate, as has Russia, China, and Brazil. Let the Middle East Council do it...since its in their back yard and they are the primary proponents of the no-fly zone.

The brunt of the burden will be held by U.S servicemen and women. U.S pilots, U.S ships, U.S money, U.S everything... sure U.K, Australia, France, and a few other nations will contribute but they will only make up 5%-15% of the forces.

This is utter BS... let the Libyans sort it out... or let the EU nations carry the weight... especially Italy/France/Britain since its one of their former colonies.

No-fly zones are more complicated than you may think... it involves massive deployment of men and material... which cost money and distress on the service members. Additionally, it will be American pilots in harms way... American's stretched between Iraq, Afghanistan, and now Libya... more deployments, more time away from family, more lost days...etc

Lets not forget the bombing, the risk, the inevitable conflict... people are going to die, people are going to fight, etc... just because their are no ground troop does not mean its not a war.

The Balkans were a peace keeping mission with a no-fly zone... look how that turned out. There were no-fly zones over Iraq after the first gulf war... pilots still died, American tax money was still used.

haha 6..... 6 F-18's haha... the US will be sending at least one entire Carrier Strike group...

6000-7000 personnel (an Aircraft carrier, 80 planes, cruiser and destroyer escorts, etc)

and Canada is sending 6 F-18s... with 100 men at most... thanks Canada.

What I'm saying is that all these countries are advocating for a no-fly zone yet none of them are going to contribute the necessary force... yet they still will criticize how we implement this...

If they want it so bad... maybe they should bear the brunt.
