I always double tap with my 45acp and acheive the same accuracy that I would if I were shooting any of the mainstream calibers. If you are accurate with a 9mm and have great shot placement then guess what, your going to have the same great shot placement with any round. Shot placement has nothing to do with caliber and everything to do with trigger control and consistant hand grip along with not anticipating the shot. With double taps a smooth cadence as well.

I can place two 9mm in the same places at roughly the same speed as a 45. I prefer my 1911 because it makes bigger holes and the grip angle is closer to my natural "finger point of aim".

Nice pic, rmodel. I'm copying that one for future instruction:)

I dont understand the "this round is better than that round" debate

It's been said many times over that .22lr has killed more people than any other round available...

    With that said

I've seen people who've taken 6 .45 rounds to center mass and survive and people take a single .32 to the face and be DOA

So... What do you carry? On duty and off duty?

I agree that shot placement is key, but a 22lr has disadvantages. Shots to the head are usually fatal in any caliber.
A 45 does not a marksman make, and a miss of a vital in any caliber is usually survivable.
Bigger holes in the right place is where i put my faith, unless I can't carry full size. Then, 38spl holes will have to do:)

This arguement has been going on since there was a choice in caliber. We can agree on some things, but agree to disagree on others!

    On duty I carry a .40 and a .357

Off duty i rotate depending on clothing/activity

    I have a .357 a .40 and a .380

My single .45 is too big and heavy and doesnt have enough rounds to make me happy

really you have witnessed this in person.. Any round to the head will most likely be fatal especially at close range. The person you saw get hit by 6 45acp rounds were they all in his legs and arms. My partner got shot point blank in the face under his right eye with a .380 and survived. Partial paralysis to the right side of his face. If he took the same shot with a 45acp, 357, 10mm or even a 9mm he wouldnt be alive today so its not 100 percent about shot placement. The round you are using has to have a devastating impact on muscle and tissue if a major organ is not hit. Even if a major organ is hit the perp may not drop immediately. The kinetic energy of the projectile has to be transfered to the tissue to create this devastation which translates into mass x velocity. Also to get more in depth bullet design ,fragmentation, and expansion play a huge role. example: do you know that it is more detrimental to wound enemy soldiers in a war rather than kill them. Wounding them not only puts them out of action but also takes another healthy soldier out of the equation to care for them. This is why the 5.56 round was designed to brake into two pieces as it entered the body to create havoc. Another example is the use of hollow points for police instead of ball ammo where we are going for a kill instead of a wound. These bullets are designed to mushroom so that more tissue damage can occur and are also designed to not exit the body. If a bullet stays in the body that means that all the energy has been expended within.

I am no gun expert here but i would like to offer my 2 cents to the op. I have a g30 (compact .45) and its great, everyone i have ever know that has owned a glock loves them, they are a bit pricey new but will last. best part to me is the lack of moving parts, and its super easy to clean. Down side here is its expensive to shoot compared to a 9 or 22 at that. so with that said, my next firearm is going to be a 22. I'll have the best of both worlds, a 45 with p+ and a 22 with 2 cent rounds.
I guess what im getting at is everyone can argue all day about what cal is best ....but its like trying to compare a 4cyl to a v 8 . we could argue about that all day as well, its what suits your needs that matters. raw power, fuck it get eagle. you'll pay 50-60 cents a round but its bad ass, so is a 454 motor, but it doesnt always make sense

Guys bottom line is any caliber is better than no caliber. I say if youre going to go through the pains of carrying a sidearm then why not carry the most powerful round you can handle and increase your odds. It is extremely difficult to get good shot placement in a high stress life or death situation. You loose all your fine motor skills so even if youre an ace shot at the range you have no way of knowing how you are going to react in real life. Most of the big caliber guns are offered in such small packages now that why not give yourself an edge.

Spray and pray? You're better off with a tec-22, at least it's more controllable.

I've had this debate many times and it is ignorant responses that always makes for a non-productive environment. You have no idea what my experience is and do not know what my knowledge base is yet you assume it is minimal because I disagree with you. I get very tired with macho men trying to say you have to carry a larger, more expensive (thus less cost effective to put hours at the range training) caliber.

Pretty much I say Fuck you because you don't understand that others may have a point and you just assume you know better.

I'm done with this thread. No need to respond Tepidy unless you want to try and prove your manliness yet again by making rude comments to people you don't know.

I was in the middle of a gang firefight saturday night

1 person got shot in the head with a .223 round

Guess who's not even in the hospital...granted it wasnt a direct through and through shot...but...it was in the head...

The person who got hit with the 6 .45 rounds as i said before...was struck center mass

For someone who claims to know so much you should know that center mass is the upper torso...NOT arms and legs

OP, if you can dig thru the BS, take what you can from here. We all different views and experiences with different rounds and loads. If possible go to the range, I know some ranges let you rent guns, take your wife to the gun store, let her handle weapons, and research what you can. All in the end its what you choose and what shes comfortable shooting. If she's never shot before or has very little experience, maybe go thru a class. Something you guys can do together. Like has been said, shot placement is key. The guts behind the round is key too. The expansion and characteristics of the round come into play as well. Good luck with everything!
