I debated waiting for the ‘24 as I do like the looks of the exterior (not a fan of the interior). I expect it will be more responsive and feel better to drive than the current gen. Yes, it’s a 4 cyl turbo but Toyota wants to maintain their reputation for reliability. They’ll get it right.

That said, I don’t want a first year anything. They’ll get it right, but it’ll take time. And I don’t want to wait another couple of years for a truck so I picked up my ‘23 this week. I absolutely love it and plan to drive it for the next 7-10 years.

Resale doesn't matter to me too. But if it did I'm happy that it is better than any Ram, F series or GM pickup. The usual disappointments after buying one of those coupled with the added insult of less value would be difficult to bear. Probably depressing enough to make me want to post negative comments about Tacomas to try and make myself feel better about my stupidity.

Then why click on a post discussing resale value if it didn’t matter to you, nice deflection. Of course it matters to everyone.
Trucks will hold value better than most vehicles still regardless of brand but Tacomas aren’t immune to what’s coming in the market

If you tried to trade your truck in, you would get about 5-10% less than what you were able to a month ago. Dealers are trying to keep prices strong but they’re now paying way less. The market dropped off a cliff this month.

Maybe they aren't immune but they're the best place to be in resale value. The domestics offering thousands off msrp tells me that they have an overinflated msrp, which extends to resale. If you can get 15k off a new domestic, it should be easy to find a used one at another 15 to 20k less than that. Maybe if they set their msrp at a realistic price they wouldn't have to "discount" them so much. Then again it's part of the domestic culture- "I got 20k off msrp!"- really??? More like "I got 20k off a msrp that is inflated by 30k! I did real good!!!"

Not sure the hate on domestics, their values hold very strong just as long as you got a good price. Trucks are obviously useful for work and are extremely popular. My experience with domestics is that they hold up just as well as Tacomas. And i love Tacomas, but i also love domestic trucks as well.

i refer to my previous post … Tacomas are not immune to what’s here and what’s coming…

I don't know where you got that offer for your 2021 but it certainly isn't realistic. An 11% drop in price over the last month isn't actually happening. More like less than 1% from what I've found. Hate is a bit of a strong word. I have owned pretty much exclusively domestics over the last 35 or so years, so I have experience with them. My dislike comes from the acceptance and excuses for poor quality that the domestics get. If Toyota or any of the "Asian" brands had the issues of the domestics, they wouldn't be able to sell one vehicle here. I went with a Tacoma this time mostly because of the incredibly ridiculous stop/start and cylinder deactivation systems and resultant problems that the domestics have. Add turbos into that mess and I couldn't help but look elsewhere. If you were to actually sell your 2021 you wouldn't take a 11% drop in price unless that was what you were willing to sell it for.

me too! I was debating and thinking about waiting for a ‘24, but I said to myself I wanted the v6 and don’t want the 1st few model years. So I picked up my ‘23 truck a month ago and love it!

I'm not really concerned about my value except for if something out of my control happens like someone hits it and it becomes a total loss. I plan to keep my truck for a very long time. I only owe about $7000 yet too and am looking forward to no payments in the future. Knowing that the Tacoma has historically had better than average resale values will help me get more towards a replacement vehicle in that sort of unfortunate situation.
Though looking at Carfax they have my trade in value currently slightly higher than the price I paid before taxes and fees nearly 3 years ago. Not sure how accurate that is but it feels favorable to me. I know used vehicles prices have been higher the last few years because of supply but before covid and all the market crazy it caused it did well.

It certainly is realistic, check a dealer for your actual trade in value quote- i promise you, they’re coming in lower than you’d expect…. This past months values have been cliff diving.
Used Tacomas were extremely bloated for quite a while and they’re getting “hit” as we speak. A lot of them are sitting on the used lots. (Long term they obviously will still hold value amazing, I’m not claiming otherwise)

I’m just simply pointing out, short term, the days of used trade ins going higher than new are long gone. It will settle down but Tacomas specifically had to be corrected, and that’s exactly what’s going on.

We get it. You've been giddily proclaiming Tacoma prices will fall off a cliff for quite a while now.

In other news: You edited your profile. Did you buy a '23? I thought you were "waiting for a '24"?

Trade in value has pretty much always been way lower than what a private sale would bring. When I bought my Tacoma the dealer asked if I had anything to trade. I had a '16 Chevy Silverado 2500HD LTZ 210k kms. Their offer was 22k Canadian. I sold it within 3 days as is at 30k privately. Probably could have held out for more too. This was back in late April. Trade in offers around here are low and always have been. It's not realistic to trade in a used vehicle for more than the new purchase price even if you paid a good price for it. I know it happened but that had more to do with vehicle availability due to the recent economic and world pandemic than the actual value of any make. The fact still is that specifically Tacomas have the best resale value on the market. If you are going to trade it than you should expect to be taken. They are called stealerships for good reason. I think that all the domestics around here are WAY overpriced and that is showing since the dealers can't give them away or are offering huge discounts. Meanwhile the lots here are empty of Tacomas and Toyotas in general. Anyway if you missed the bus on profiting on your Tacoma that's your fault. Vehicles to me aren't an investment and I would never buy one thinking of possible appreciated values.

Great looking truck! I’m still debating removing my air dam and installing a skid plate. No lift and 265/70/16 tires so I’m not sure how it’ll look or how much more wind noise there may be (it’s my daily and I drive 36-37 miles to work).

Buy a truck from the big 3 and you'll spend the entire time you own it making excuses about why it's falling apart.

Offer from Carvana (unsolicited email) arrived today, offer was $2k less than last month's offer for my 2017.

Used price party ending if not already over. No worries on my part since I'm not selling, but I think those obsessed with "muh ReSaLe vALuE" are now sailing down a particular river in Egypt.
