this truck has been leaking everything from everywhere since last fall.

started with the coolant bypass pipe, then the oil pan, then the oil pressure switch, then i burst a line to the clutch slave.

so i replaced the coolant bypass pipe, patched the pan with a sheet metal skrew and jb, cleaned the crud off the engine to find the ops leak, and then burst the line on my way home from the grocery store yesterday. i replaced slave, master, and lines. now none of that stuff is leaking, and I got a bunch of fresh fluid in the truck as a bonus. I can't flush the brakes until i go ahead and replace rear drums, bleeders are siezed and it should be done sometime soon anyway.

i figured i'd go ahead and swap the trans/transfer/diff fluids and be done (for now) but no... i got the transmission fluid swapped out, then moved on to the transfer case and saw this:

i hope you can see the picture. if not, oil is sprayed all over and seems to be coming from a black box attatched to the transfer case, on the back side by the fill and drain. i don't know the name of this part, or if it is a common thing to fail/easy enough to fix?

i am learning on my own as i go, and the victorious feeling i get from fixing stuff is dwindling. and i'm worried about what i'll do when something big breaks.

Hard to tell but it might just be grease from the u-joint flinging out as the driveshaft spins.

Gear oil from inside the t-case would be more drippy like engine oil

I can see the picture, but I’m only seeing grease from the driveshaft U-joint as well, which is normal when they are greased regularly / correctly.

100% from the u-joint. Nothing to be concerned about.

Give it a smell. No mistaking gear oil from grease.

It looks like you have greaseable u-joints so I'd grease them. I have the same marks on mine and I grease my u-joints at the 5000 mile oil change.

Yep, U-joint grease. Nothing to worry about.
I have the same stripes under my truck and am confident that is one area of my truck that will never rust.
