I'm headed out the next day to an even hotter place with more humidity to go to a factory that doesn't have A/C. As a person who starts getting uncomfortable at 85 degrees with 0 humidity, I might literally die lol. I live at 5200' in the desert. Above 15% I feel like I'm in a sauna. Yep. Probably gonna die.

    Please don't do Rudy's. It is...fine.
If your time allows for lunch, Truth BBQ is the best in town, imo, but they sell out by probably 1:30. Killens or J-Bar-M are probably the best that are somewhat close to hobby, but the airport isn't exactly near many of the top places in town. Here's a good list with a map: https://houston.eater.com/maps/best-houston-bbq-barbecue-restaurants/j-bar-m-barbecue

Killen's looks like it's gonna be the winner if I can get there before they close.

Central TX BBQ is also in that area with Killen’s. Not sure what their hours are. Personally I like Killens brisket better, but for anything else I prefer Central TX. More homestyle sides and definitely a different homey atmosphere.

What place on earth is hotter and more humid than Houston???

Houston prob has the worst climate than anywhere in the USA

And Rudy’s is not all that bad, it’s a Texas chain based from San Antonio, not as great as other small shops but still I feel like a Texas bbq staple.

Go East a couple states. Maybe not quite as hot, but wet bulb temp with the humidity is worse. I just pulled them both up, and at the moment Houston is worse. That being said, I have no desire to go anywhere that gets humidity above 20% so I'm screwed either way.

It’s cheap and diverse. You could go cheaper but it prob won’t be as diverse. Prob the most diverse city in the USA IMO. It’s not a terrible place just flat and hot/humid.

Been here all my life but moving west next year.

    Hmmm. Sounds terrible ;)

Where are you moving out West? I've lived on the Western seaboard off and on and keep coming back. Vastly prefer it to anything midwest, south or, east coast unless it's up around Maine.

For what it's worth, Houston comes in at #11 in diversity. Which is still pretty good. 8 of the top 10 are cities in California, but that's to be expected.

    1. You acclimate, somewhat.
    2. You stay in AC as much as possible.
    3. You dress for the weather.
    4. At least winter is usually mild.

I'm from the SW corner of the midwest. The summers were almost as hot/sticky as here many days. It's just not as long of the year as here. But the winters there can be pretty grey and miserable. Painfully cold, icy, little to no snow. Here, that is only like 3 weeks a year, which is nice.

Hey, everyone has their preference. I'm not here because I love the climate, but there's great jobs, amazing food, 2 good airports for when I want to leave. I'd love to live near some mountains, too. Maybe one day, but for now, I'll enjoy the brisket and crawfish and sweat my D off a few months out of the year.

PS, I learned of a gem that some of you outdoorsy-types may or may not have tried yet. Anyone been to Lake Houston Wilderness Park? Went up there yesterday to do a 10-mile hike for the first time. I've thought about camping there in the past, but wasn't sure how nice it was. I LOVED it! The tall trees, unpaved trails, and cool other plants made for some great nature time, all 30ish miles from downtown. Highly recommend it, if you want to get outside. Temps yesterday were decent in the morning, so didn't get too hot, but got to soak in the creek after we finished.

Anyone have a short bed Softopper they want to get rid of? Thinking about using one for more covered cargo space on camping trips.
