Could be lens distortion. Or this dog can really be larger than a tree.

Little too much for a play vehicle. Rather have a UTV, and actually have it off-road well…

…can make them street legal here in Idaho.

They used to have some clean designs, there was always a weird curve or angle thrown in somewhere to break up the clean lines. Now it's all weird curves and angles. I like boring truck designs. Not that I like the redesign of the 23 Super Duty, but Ford some sheet metal look more conservative, the headlights and grille don't look great.

This goes for the highlander and Camry too. Honda has always has more spaceship cockpit vibes to them, and it seemed as if Toyota wanted to one up then.

It’s crazy how many Tacomas are in Hawaii. Almost every vehicle you see is one and then there are a ton of 4Runners too. It’s also crazy how so many of the Tacoma’s have massive lifts and wheel poke.

Retro is very difficult to do well because the styling cues people love don’t pass modern standards.

Running 37s on a NA V6 is a fool’s errand, even with new gears. 35s on 4.56s is still low, and why they offer 4.88s as an option from the factory now. But I bet it looked mean.

I mean.. my third gen on on 33s was a slug even with a manual.

And yet somehow…other manufacturers are able to do it. Annnnd Toyota one of the World’s top manufacturers can’t for whatever reason?

When you first sit in those things, it is like how do I get it to start?

My wife with the RAV4…ummmm, there is no key, what do I do? Her last vehicle was a 2002 Trooper.

It is a bit much, trying to force myself to like it…which I shouldn’t have to do. Crazy to spend that kind of coin and tell yourself, guess it will grow on me….

Yeah not crazy about the Super Duty redesign either…only grill that is somewhat ok is the XL. New taillights aren’t terrible.

oh totally agree, can’t tell you how many Wranglers I see here on 37s. Not many 392s either. Doubtful if most of them see dirt, just brodozers. They do look cool, that is for sure.

My wife has a loner RAV4 currently, she says it looks like a very determined robot. Drives nice, but rather hideous.

I see clear a clear familiarity in the taillights and overall profile especially compared to the departure that the 2nd and third gens took. The proportions of the tailights and the way they sit in relation to the bumper more closely resembles the old ones, overall I think they did a good job. It’s a clear improvement in modernity while building on the looks of the third gen. Don’t see what all the hate is about. That being said I remember when the third gens came out people hated their styling.

Your opinion is in the minority no matter how loud you're. FE, I want a modern compact body on frame pickup truck, however, no manufacturer is considering this because the market demand isn't there.

Guess I am not seeing it. They are more straight up an down, but look like a C-Clamp. Bumper other than it being a step, the corners wrap around and are angled.

The built in spoiler on the gate does resemble the truck you pictured, but that is an early 80s truck, you mentioned 90s in your other post.

Tailgate is recessed, and not stamped with lettering. Some of the early 80s trucks were stamped “Toyota” so can kinda see that.

Dunno, 4G and the 3G for that matter don’t scream Toyota to me, though their design language has been off the rails for years to me. Perhaps since I have been a Toyota fan since the 80s. Doing my best old man “I remember when!”…”You damn kids don’t know a good looking truck if it bit you in the ass!” LOL!

I really don’t see a reason to go smaller on these trucks. Less usable space
80s or 90s, the older trucks changed more gradually, I’d say you can find familiarity between all gens as far as design language is concerned. Funny how we’re going back to boxy designs after everything got so round during the mid 2000s. Just something about the rear end reminds me of my first truck which was an 83.

Oh I know… just being a cranky middle aged man.

Everything on here is on constant repeat, people still complaining about the 3G trans, the engine, drum brakes, wind noise, seat height, legroom, etc. yet I am the nutter… lol!

Do keep on telling myself, need to get off this stupid forum, cause it is the same shit over and over. And yet…

It is weird that they don’t do a compact BOF, they sell the shit out of halo vehicles if they are done right.

Yeah a I guess there a small things I can see, it is just so far removed, I am like “what the hell is that!?”

It has been like that forever, round then square, round then square or the other way around since the beginning. Tastes and style change over the years, yet stay the same. Weird how bent sheet metal can perceived. Kinda like music, you stick with the stuff you came to age with. I’ll branch out, but always come back to the stuff I listened to in my teens and 20s.

Those same manufacturers have also failed hilariously at it

Toyota does just fine without doing the retro thing. They do however use the term 'Legacy' a lot.

Thinking there’s not enough legit off road enthusiasts out there to justify a BOF compact, and most who’d chose a compact PU over a mid sized Tacoma are considering compact hatchbacks and cross/utility compacts. And unibody is better for the application for that group.

    Sure about that?

Bronco is at 82,000+ so far for 2023, 4Runner is around 41,500+.

So double the sales this year over the 4R is failing?

Yeah, don’t get that comment. The Bronco is one of the most coveted vehicles made today.
